Speeding car rams into auto; 2 hurt
Ludhiana, March 27
Two people sustained serious injuries after a speeding car hit an auto-rickshaw on the Ferozepur Road, near Aggar Nagar, today. The incident took place this afternoon when the auto-rickshaw was negotiating a turn from the road diversion near Aggar Nagar, and a speeding car rammed into it from the rear. Before hitting it, the car had hit a tree.

Eight-lane road turns killer stretch

The eight-lane road from the Sidhwan Canal to Octroi Post is fast turning into a killer stretch. This could be attributed to the road’s ‘poor design’, which has been constructed only to cater to fast-moving vehicles, while no provision has been made for slow-moving vehicles.

Girl’s murder: Cops going slow on case?

Even as five days have passed, the police have failed to make any headway in the rape and murder case of a four-year-old girl. Going by the slow pace of investigation, it seems the police are keen on solving petty crime cases.

The Health Department today issued 25 challans, to persons found smoking in public places, for not putting put up warning boards, for advertising tobacco products and for selling tobacco near educational institutions. A fine of Rs 4,220 was collected from the violators.

Shafiq Butt, a language activist from Sahiwal district in Pakistan Punjab, has been instrumental in reviving the folk theatre form "rahs". The Punjab Lok Rahs is a 25-year-old theatre group, which came into existence after General Zia-ul-Haq imposed martial law in 1977.

Kidnapping: 6 booked
Ludhiana, March 27
The city police have booked six persons for allegedly kidnapping a person from Sangowal village. The accused identified as Ganni and Kasam along with their four accomplices, all hailing from Kapurthala, allegedly barged into the house of one Baag Hussain and kidnapped him.

Man held for illegal mining
Jagraon, March 27
The Jagraon police and Mining Department officials have arrested one person for alleged illegal mining and smuggling of sand from the Sutlej, while two of his accomplices managed to escape from the scene taking advantage of darkness. The police have also confiscated an Arjun tractor laden with illegal sand.

Football tourney to begin today
