Govt launches helpline for nursery admissions
New Delhi, January 13 The move meant to tighten noose on city's private schools is another step taken by the AAP towards making a mark in its performance in Delhi ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. The helpline, launched by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, would function under the direct supervision of the Minister of Education and Urban Development Manish Sisodia who would be closely monitoring the progress of complaints. The government this time would see that no gaps in the implementation of Right to Education Act 2010 remains be it the mandatory admission of kids belonging to the economically weaker section or aspect of donations. The helpline would go live when nursery admissions for the new term begin this month. As reported earlier, schools found violating on donation would have to pay a heavy penalty-10 times the amount charged for donation in line with the RTE Act. "Providing good education and better health services to the people is top on our government's agenda. Why are Delhi schools opposed to being transparent? They should not have approached the high court and should keep the process transparent," said Kejriwal. Pointing out that schools are charitable societies, he stressed that they should not be run with the motive of earning profits. The Education Minister said he will call 10 parents every day to get their feedback on the admission process and callers can track their complaints either by calling the helpline or through the website of Directorate of Education www.edudel.nic.in which was also launched to streamline pre-primary admission in recognised private schools. Noting that people want education for their children, better health facilities, transport among other things, the Education Minister asserted, "Our efforts will be to translate their dreams into action through a transparent system." Under the new system, the education officer concerned has to address public's admission-related grievances within three working days and failing in which they would be routed to the Deputy Director of Education of the district concerned. Directorate would be closely monitoring the pendency status at Helpline under the guidance of the minister. Along with the helpline, a GIS-based application will enable parents to find the location and other details about the infrastructure of the nearby schools on website of education department i.e. www.edudel.nic.in for the purpose of pre-primary admissions. The trained executives will respond to the queries of the callers of the Helpline and in process a unique identity proof (ID) would be sent to the caller via SMS as acknowledgment of the call for further follow-up and after resolution the caller will be informed through SMS. |
