MDDA seals five shops without parking spaces
Tribune News Service

Dehradun, December 3
A team of the Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) today sealed five shopping complexes which had not provided parking spaces. Four shops had provided parking facility, while the shutters of two complexes were found sealed.

The team led by MDDA secretary Banshidhar Tiwari started the drive in the morning from Sushil Departments at Rajpur Road. Thereby, it was found that owner Sushil Jain shared parking space with other two shops, Aashiana Furnishing and Peter England. While the other two had not tampered with the parking space, Jain had misused the space by building a shop. Peter England shop was also sealed for violating norms. Tiwari said the three shopkeepers had built a common parking space, whereas each one should have their own parking lot.

They had one common entrance but no exit. Jain also showed documents pertaining to prior approval from the MDDA in 2006 for developing common entrance but he could not show the approval of map in this regard. The basement in the adjacent building owned by Amit Kumar Monu was also sealed. It was found that the offender sold the rest of the building to different shopkeepers and gave parking on rent, violating norms. The MDDA secretary said the department would lodge a case under Section 420 against him. The shop built over it was also sealed.

Vehicles were found stranded on Rajpur Road outside Friends Plaza, whereas the parking lot was misused for some other purpose.

On the left side of the basement parking, some construction work was done, which was dismantled just before the MDDA team reached the spot. On the right side, a to-let board was put up. The entire building was sealed by the MDDA team. Besides, Arya Shopping Complex on the Sahanpur road and a building owned by Rakesh Kumar at Patel Nagar were also sealed.

Two shopping complexes owned by Kamlesh and Mukesh Kumar on New Road were sealed a few days ago.

Those who arranged for the parking facility in the basement after receiving notice from the MDDA are Chanchal Sweet Shop on the Haridwar road, a shop owned by NP Kalra on Chakshah Nagar, Oberoi Nishan Motors on Kargi Chowk and Suri Motors on GMS Road.
