Gorkha morcha seeks 70 pc job quota in state industries
Dehradun, November 17 Addressing a press conference here today, the party president, Capt JB Karki (retd), said, “The people of Uttarakhand are not getting jobs in the industrial units coming up in the industrial areas of the state. The industries have promised at least 70 per cent reservation for the people of the state in jobs in their units, but they have failed to fulfil it.” Karki said the party had given a deadline of February 15, 2013, to these industries to recruit people of Uttarakhand or else it would launch an agitation. It would resort to forced closure of these industries. Karki also demanded the permanent capital status for Gairsain. He said the main idea behind the formation of Uttarakhand was ensuring development in the hill areas. “But that is not happening at present,” he added. He also announced the office-bearers of the Dehradun Mahanagar youth wing of the party. The office-bearers are: President--Vikas Kumar; general secretary -- Subham; treasurer--Punit; and secretary--Vicky. |
Samajwadi Party wants restart of power projects' construction
Dehradun, November 17 Addressing mediapersons here today, Barthwal said projects like Lakhwar Vyasi and Bhairoghati should be completed and not left in the lurch. He said even the Srinagar hydropower project should be completed at the earliest. He said Uttarakhand had large hydropower potential that needed to be exploited for the generation of revenue. Barthwal said he would launch an awareness yatra in the state from December 4, the foundation day of the Samajwadi Party. He said the yatra aimed at apprising people of the party’s policies and programmes. He said the party would also organise programmes on the occasion of the birthday of party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on November 22. “We will be observing November 22 as Sankalp Diwas”, he said. Barthwal alleged that most of the state bureaucrats were not serious towards working for the betterment of the state. “They are only interested in going to deputation to the Centre”, he said. Referring to Gairsain, Barthwal said it was right time to declare Gairsain as the permanent capital of the state. He further said a Himalayan development authority was important for the development of the Himalayan states. This authority should be headed by the Prime Minister, he added. He asked Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna to focus more on hills rather than frequently going to Delhi. |

Working for cause of wildlife
Jotirmay Thapliyal Tribune News Service
Dehradun, November 17 Today he is the most sought after person when any incident of appearance of snakes takes place in any locality of Dehradun. It was his interest in wildlife that brought Abhishek close to snakes. He made close friends with nomadic communities to know more about snakes and their relationship with mankind. In 2009, Abhishek did the pioneering work of starting Uttarakhand’s first 24x7 animal rescue helpline service in Dehradun district. With this service continuing till date, he has successfully rescued and relocated hundreds of animals ranging from a large variety of snakes like python and cobras to lizards, civets and even leopards. The state Forest Department that faces big challenge in the form of snakes venturing into habitations, particularly during rainy season, has found a big relief in Abhishek endevour. Forest officials regularly seek his services to rescue snakes. He, through his NGO, has even conducted several training programmes for forest guards on safe snake rescue operations. He has, so far, successfully trained about hundred state Forest Department personnel in snake rescuing. A special kit for safely catching snakes has also designed by him. This endeavour has resulted in the availability of trained workforce in the state, making it one of the first states to have a dedicated snake rescuing unit in each district. Forest guards often encounter snakes in the village areas and thus knowledge of rescue operations methodology is a must for them. Significantly, Abhishek, through EFFECT, has helped create a wide network of people throughout the state. Owing to this, valuable inputs were given to the state Forest Department in numerous anti-poaching cases. He also helped unearth different cases related to animal poaching in which leopard skins and other animal body parts like bones, musk powder and gallbladders were recovered. |
