Man moves court against Union Minister over ‘toilet’ remarks

Dr Raman Ghai, President of NGO Youth Citizen Council, has moved the court against Jairam Ramesh, Union Rural Development Minister, for his recent comment where he had allegedly said there are more temples than toilets in India.

Family pledges to donate bodies
Nawanshahr, October 10
In a rare gesture, the entire family of a social worker, Jaswinder Singh, of Kahma village in the district has pledged to donate their bodies to Government Medical College, Amritsar. The family has already pledged to donate their eyes.

The Sandhu Institute of Nursing organised a seminar on “Depression - a global problem” to mark the World Mental Health Day here on Wednesday. Dr DPS Sandhu, former director, Health and Family Welfare, presided over the function. He also delivered the keynote address on the topic.

Man moves court against Union Minister over ‘toilet’ remarks

Hoshiarpur, October 10
Dr Raman Ghai, President of NGO Youth Citizen Council, has moved the court against Jairam Ramesh, Union Rural Development Minister, for his recent comment where he had allegedly said there are more temples than toilets in India.

The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Hoshiarpur, has admitted the application and fixed October 19 for the pronouncement of order on the complaint.

Earlier, Dr Raman Ghai had taken up the mater with the district police chief to register an FIR against the Union Minister. Dr Raman Ghai alleged that the said statement of the Union Minister had injured the religious sentiments of many people.

Family pledges to donate bodies

Nawanshahr, October 10
In a rare gesture, the entire family of a social worker, Jaswinder Singh, of Kahma village in the district has pledged to donate their bodies to Government Medical College, Amritsar. The family has already pledged to donate their eyes.

Jaswinder Singh (46), president, Kalgidhar Sewak Jatha, Kahma, and block in charge of the district-level NGOs Coordination Society - UPKAR, is a missionary social worker, who has donated blood for 32 times. Besides, he has been launching an awareness campaign to mobilise masses to fight the menace of female foeticide and drug addiction. His wife and elder son are regular blood donors.

Jaswinder’s parents - Tara Singh (75) and Kashmir Kaur (70); wife - Sukhdev Kaur (45); sons - Kamaljit Singh (20) and Amritpal Singh (14); and daughter - Gurpreet Kaur (18) have pledged to donate their bodies for medical research.
