Detained linemen to go on hunger strike today
Tarn Taran, October 3
Unemployed linemen, who were detained for raising slogans in the SAD rally during the address of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in Khadur Sahib on September 18, have decided to go on a hunger strike from Thursday. In a press release, the Unemployed Linemen Union stated that ten members of the detained linemen would go on a hunger strike in the Central Jail, Amritsar. 54 members of the union were detained by the police and have been lodged in the judicial custody.

Patient attacked in Civil Hospital

Shahkot, October 3
Certain youths allegedly attacked a patient admitted to the local Civil Hospital here today. The victim, identified as Jaswant Singh of Nangal Ambian village, sustained serious injuries in the attack and was referred to Jalandhar Civil Hospital.

He said he had a brawl with his neighbour in which he sustained injuries and was undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital.

“This morning, certain armed youths suddenly entered the general ward and attacked me with sharp-edged weapons. I was unable to identify the assailants,” the victim said. He did not disclose whether the attack was orchestrated by the same persons with whom he had a brawl on Tuesday.

As the victim sustained injuries, doctors referred him to Jalandhar Civil Hospital.

Many patients undergoing treatment at the hospital later raised a question mark on the security of patients and demanded deployment of police personnel.

SHO Prem Kumar said the police would initiate legal proceedings after recording the statement of the victim.

Detained linemen to go on hunger strike today

Unemployed linemen, who were detained for raising slogans in the SAD rally during the address of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in Khadur Sahib on September 18, have decided to go on a hunger strike from Thursday.

In a press release, the Unemployed Linemen Union stated that ten members of the detained linemen would go on a hunger strike in the Central Jail, Amritsar. 54 members of the union were detained by the police and have been lodged in the judicial custody.

The detained linemen were produced before the court today. They have decided not to apply for any bail plea as they said the state government had lodged a false case against them, which should be cancelled without any delay.

Cop booked for taking bribe

A head constable posted at the local city police station, Satnam Singh, has been booked under Section 7/3 (2) Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act , 342 of the IPC Act for taking bribe and detaining one in illegal custody .

It has been alleged that the accused head constable Satnam Singh demanded Rs 30,000 as a bribe to release Navtej Singh of Kamalpur village. He received Rs 13,000 and released Navtej.

It was also alleged that he had taken Navtej into his custody for no reason.

Manohar Singh, a social worker, brought the matter to the notice of higher police authorities. The police sources revealed that the accused constable had been suspended with an immediate effect.
