State to have telemedicine services
Dehradun, October 1 Backed by a telemedicine headquarters at Primary Health Centre (PHC) to be linked with subcentres through video conferencing and satellite, the system bridge the rural and urban health care gap. "We will set up a telemedicine headquarters at a PHC that has good infrastructure but attracts less patients. This will be linked with subcentres in the state. This way the patients living in the remote areas will be able to consult specialists. The reports will be sent online from subcentres to the telemedicine headquarters having services of specialists. The modalities are still being worked out for which the Health Department will invite private partners," said Dr Ranvir Singh, Principal Secretary, Health. Employing multi-media technology will save both time and money. Patients don't need to travel to get specialist medical advice. In Uttarakhand, where there is a glaring gap between urban and rural health care, telemedicine can to some extent reduce the pressure on urban facilities. He said initially telemedicine would be started to provide consultancy services in the remote areas followed by a Citizen Health Information System (CHIS) to support telemedicine services in primary, secondary and tertiary care. A health information system would be developed which would update the health record of every citizen, beginning with universal vital registration, which is portable and accessible to service providers and to the families themselves. Before that, the government would have to put in efforts in familiarising the rural people with the new system and its benefits so that they see merit in long distance advice. Besides the state would have to invest in skilled human resources needed at the state and district level. "This will require a mix of people who have both IT skills and public health informatics skills. For this reason, the project will be run on public-private partnership," said Dr Ranvir Singh. |

CM misled public on domicile status: URM
Dehradun, October 1 In his address to a rally at Chandermani yesterday, he said the Chief Minister on the one hand was speaking about complying with the High Court order on the state domicile issue and on the other hand the government had filed a plea in the Supreme Court challenging the High Court order on September 8. He said the Chief Minister was misleading the public with his distorted statements. Party president TPS Rawat said both Congress and BJP made some 1,000 announcements of development projects but did not work on any one of them. He also pulled up the government for using the disaster relief work to increase its vote bank. |

Close shave for CM
Dehradun, October 1 As the chopper was flying low, the wires of the light pole reportedly came into contact with each other resulting in the spark due to the air pressure created by the wings of the helicopter. The Chief Minister again boarded the same chopper and went to Vikasnagar to address another election rally for the Tehri byelection in which his son Saket Bahuguna is the party candidate. Talking to mediapersons at Vikasnagar, Bahuguna said the rotor of his helicopter came in contact with the electric line but it was safe. Earlier, his helicopter had landed at a wrong place in Uttarkashi district two days ago. |

Kribhco outlets to provide quality fertilisers to farmers
Dehradun, October 1 He said unlike many other states, Uttarakhand did not have retail outlets of Kribhco, named as Krishak Bharti Seva Kendra. His proposal to open two such outlets in Haridwar and two in Udham Singh Nagar had already been cleared. He said all kinds of fertilisers, seeds etc would be available to farmers in these outlets. "Soon we will start looking for land to build the retail outlets, he added. Along with this, a seed fertilisers plant would also be opened in Roorkee, where good quality seeds would be prepared and procured. There were other problems which required immediate attention. He said : "The farmers in the state demand small packets of fertilisers, whereas Kribhco could not give less than 50 kg packets of fertilisers. I will try to seek out a mid way
about this. Besides this, the farmers in the state are using more of urea and less of phosphate in their crops because the cost price of urea is cheaper in the market than phosphate. The fact is that urea is mostly imported whereas the Centre had to pay exorbitant price because of higher value of dollar. Besides, this imbalance in fertiliser prices is also affecting the quality of produce. So the farmers will be educated in not using excessive urea but both urea and phosphate in small quantities." He said the farmers should be educated to grow varied kinds of crops throughout the year where they could sell the produce in the markets at a good price. Apart from this, they could also prepare a bio-compost, which usually they were not doing so. He encouraged them to opt for milk dairies and preparing milk products, which are always in great demand
in the markets. |
Residents angry over insanitation
Haridwar, October 1 But when the Health Officer also gave meagre assurance, angry BJP activists gheraoed the officer and warned that they would lock him in his office if colonies in the city were not cleared. He added that in various colonies like Vishnu Ghat, Jwalapur, Gobindpuri, Devpura and Mayapur residents have taken this matter with the corporation employees but no action has been taken so far. |
Wildlife Week celebrations a low key affair
Dehradun, October 1 At the inaugural function held here today, chief guest Wildlife Institute of India’s Director PR Sinha interacted with students of Nari Shilp School in which he laid emphasis on the importance of conservation. Sinha also showered praises on the state Wildlife Department. He said Uttarakhand was one of the best states in the country as far as animal conservation was concerned. Uttarakhand Principal Chief Conservator of Forests RBS Rawat called for focus on efforts of wildlife conservation. Interestingly, NGOs that were regular participants in the Wildlife Week celebrations for the past many years were not invited for the inaugural function, which has always been the main highlight of the Wildlife Week celebrations. Member secretary of People For Animals Gauri Maulekhi also expressed concern over the state Forest Department showing little enthusiasm towards the event this year, which she said held a lot of importance in Uttarakhand. |
Gayatri Pariwar launches drive against animal sacrifice
Pithoragarh, October 1 "We have appealed the management of the Udaipur Golu temple near Dwarahat and and devotees not to sacrifice animals on Navratras this month and instead offer symbolic things to the deity," said Navin Joshi, convener of the campaign. Members of the Gayatri family urged villagers that the religion means saving the creation of God and not sacrificing them. They also held meetings in Bagwalipokhar Binta, Kaphara and Simalgaon villages of Dwarahat to spread their message. |
Satellite facility a boon for farmers
Pithoragarh, October 1 “We have aimed to increase this number to 500, as the IIT, Kanpur, has agreed to our request of providing information to 500 farmers of the district,” said MP Singh, in-charge of Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Sui in Lohaghat subdivision of the district. According to Singh, the Indian Institute of Agriculture Research has installed a V-sat at KVK, Lohaghat, along with other 200 centres in the country. However, the video satellite facility installed in the district has gone out of operation due to the recent cloudburst. But the team from the IIAR has started the repair the V- sat. “After the resumption of services, the satellite installed at Champawat district, the farmers from a wide range of villages will be able to get benefits of experts, advice on various crop diseases and their remedies,” said
