Patil's security staff manhandle complainant

Public darbar losing sheen
Chandigarh, October 1
With only 11 complainants turning up today for UT Administrator Shivraj Patil’s public darbar, it seems the darbar has lost its appeal. For the past many months, the public darbar has been witnessing a low turnout of complainants. Official records reveal that 38 complainants had come to meet the Administrator during a public session on September 15 last year. However, the numbers are decreasing now.

Woman constable molested

A woman police constable, deployed in civvies to keep an eye on eve-teasers as part of a new drive by the Chandigarh police, became a victim of eve-teasing on a CTU bus when a 29-year-old man passed lewd comments at her and allegedly molested her on the bus.

Girls share experiences with SSP
Chandigarh, October 1
A student shares her experiences regarding eve-teasing at Dev Samaj College in Chandigarh on Monday. Girl students of Dev Samaj College, Sector 45, during an interaction with UT SSP Naunihal Singh shared incidents of eve-teasing with complaints against rickshaw pullers made to the police. Narrating an incident, one of the students revealed that a rickshaw puller tease girls near the college gate.

Eve-teasing menace: Police to sensitise boys
Chandigarh, October 1
UT SSP Naunihal Singh interactes with students of Dev Samaj College in Chandigarh on Monday. After girls, now it would be boys to have a lesson on the consequences of eve-teasing. The Chandigarh Police would now be visiting boys’ colleges to sensitise them about the laws and punishment under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for eve-teasing.

Girl students complain against college guard

Minutes after UT SSP Naunihal Singh interacted with girls at Dev Samaj College, Sector 45, encouraging them to raise a voice against eve-teasing, some of the girl students dialed the police control room (PCR) number “100” and complained of eve-teasing against an employee of their college.

Property tax: MC gets lukewarm response from residents

Following a 15-day notice given by the Panchkula Municipal Corporation (MC) to residents with regard to options of policies on the property tax, old and new, of the last two years, the former is not receiving much response from the latter. On the other hand, most of the owners of commercial property have paid the tax of the last two years as per the old policy.

With all eyes now set on the 36 members nominated by the Chancellor of Panjab University in the Senate, the students bodies have intensified their campaign to ensure that the Panjab University Campus Student Council (PUCSC) president gets a representation in the Senate. A meeting of the PUCSC members and senior leaders of Student Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU) was held to plan a strategy for the same.

Provide alternative sites to 294 Palsora Colony residents: HC

The Punjab and Haryana High Court today came to the rescue of 294 erstwhile residents of Palsora Colony. Nearly a decade after their jhuggis were demolished, Justice Jasbir Singh and Justice Rameshwar Singh Malik this morning directed the UT Estate Officer, Chandigarh, to consider their cases for allotment of alternative tenement.

Official arrested on bribe charge
Panchkula, October 1
An official of the electricity department, Pinjore, was arrested by the State Vigilance Bureau while accepting Rs 10,000 as bribe from a resident of Panchkula. The accused was identified as Karnail Singh. The complainant, Madan Lal, contacted Singh with regard to an electricity theft case when the former demanded bribe.

SAI may delay grant to PU

With a delay in providing the utilisation certificate against the received annual grant by the SAI (Sports Authority of India), the Directorate of Sports Panjab University (PU), will now have to wait to get further grants for this session.
