Fake doctor held at RML Hospital
New Delhi, August 4 With a stethoscope around his neck and fake ID cards, Goswami used to move around the OPDs of major hospitals like AIIMS, Safdarjung, RML etc, pretending to be a doctor. He would dupe patients who were recommended diagnostic tests by sending them to private labs and taking 30 per cent commission in return. Goswami also borrowed money from doctors after befriending them. To avoid being caught, he frequently changed hospitals. Goswami finally got caught after Dr Surendra Kumar of RML, from whom he had borrowed Rs 5,000 on the pretext of his grandmother's illness in May 2012, got suspicious when he did not come to the hospital for many days. Kumar also got to know that Goswami had also taken Rs 5,000 each from two other doctors of the hospital. When Kumar checked Goswami's particulars from RML Hospital, AIIMS, the Delhi Medical Council and the Medical Council of India, he got to know that no doctor by such name existed. The police has seized two fake ID cards of AIIMS, a fake stamp of RML Hospital and a stethoscope. The cops also found a voter ID card, ATM cards of ICICI and CITI Bank, bank passbooks and cheques issued in the name of Dr Harish Goswami. A graduate, Goswami could pull off his fraud easily because he knew a lot about the way hospitals function, as he had been a frequent visitor to PGI, Chandigarh, where his uncle once worked |
Privatisation of water: Govt looting Delhiites, says Sushma
New Delhi, August 4 Addressing a conference of the resident welfare associations (rwas) of the Delhi at Talkatora Stadium that was attended by more than 4,500 RWAs on the issue of making inhuman decisions of steep hike in the power tariff and making Delhi waterless by handing over water supply system to private players, Sushma said that Article 21 of the Constitution of India guarantees fundamental rights to life to every citizen of the country. Food and water are the basic requirements of life. Water is such precious gift of nature which has been given free to every creature. The government is only the trustee of this resource (water). Selling water to foreign companies is violation of the Constitution, insult to the Indian religious scriptures and fraud with the poor people of the country, she said. Sushma said that on the one hand Supreme Court says that the food grains rotting in the godowns be distribute among the poor free of cost and on the other, the anti-people Congress government is commercialising water. She called upon the rwas that they should get united against this atrocity of the Congress government. Chief of the Delhi unit of the BJP Vijender Gupta, who presided over the conference, said that presence of such large number of members of the RWAs in Talkatora Stadium is witness of the fact that the people of Delhi are suffering due to the atrocities and anti-people decisions of the government. They want change. Now the time has come for the people to unite because the Congress government of Delhi should decrease the power tariff, withdraw privatisation of water and change its anti-people policies, otherwise it will have to face defeat. National general secretary of the party Vijay Goel said that Sheila has been in power for the past 14 years, yet 30 per cent people of the capital are not being supplied drinking water and 40 per cent do not get the facilities of sewer system. |

While the target is to perform 10,000 free surgeries this year, the basic idea is to improve the public awareness regarding, road safety measures, common orthopaedic illnesses like osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, back pain, etc. And for this, free camps and awareness programmes are being conducted throughout the country, members of the IOA said. Apart from this, the IOA is planning to organise 250 public education programmes and for this, it has tied up with numerous social service organisations and industrial partners to bring public awareness and further education on three important issues - road traffic accidents and building safety on the roads; prevention and treatment of arthritis; prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. |
