Admn's largesse to 2,034 employees
Chandigarh, August 4
The UT Administration is all set to draft a proposal to regularise 2,034 employees and daily wagers in various departments of the city. As per records, out of total 2,034 employees, 1,772 are daily wagers, 134 appointed on compassionate ground and 262 on a work-charged basis in various departments of the Administration.

Poor response to cycle tourism in Chandigarh

Cycles lying wrapped at the Sukhna Lake tell the whole story. Cycle tourism in Chandigarh, one of the first cities in the country to take initiative in this direction, has very few takers now. As per information, despite having high-end 40 cycles, hardly 3-4 cycles are rented out per week by the Tourism Department.

PGI to hold health awareness camp on August 17

In a memorandum submitted to the Syndicate today, Panjab University Students' Union has demanded creation of reading rooms in all the girls' hostels. PUSU leader Sumit Goklaney said in the absence of reading rooms in the hostels, the girl students faced problems.

One killed, three seriously injured in separate accidents

One of the pillion riders was killed and the other was seriously injured, when a speeding car (bearing no PB-26-5950) collided head on with a motorc cle on the Khamano-Chamkaur Sahib road today noon. The driver of the car fled after the accident.

In a major breakthrough in the Verna carjacking case which took place near the road separating Sector 26 and 27, Panchkula, on July 25, two car robbers (members of a carjacking gang) were arrested near Jalandhar by the Jalandhar CIA with the car.
