Namaaz offered at Akbarabadi mosque
New Delhi, July 20 Though shops were open on main road of Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg in Daryaganj, there was no buyer. The road wore a deserted look. Only a few people were seen in the area. The traffic was diverted from Delhi Gate to the Rajghat side on Ring Road. Having seen the rush of devotees for Friday prayer, the police made parking arrangement of vehicles in front of Pardah Bagh opposite Subhash Park where the controversial under-construction Akbarabadi mosque is located. Showing their religious sentiments, a large number of people, including women and children, throng to the mosque for the prayer. When the entire area that has been occupied for the mosque was filled with the devotees, the MLA appealed to the people to go to main road for the prayer. Though yesterday he had announced that the prayer would start at 1.20 pm, it was actually begun at 1.45 pm. While addressing the people before the prayer, the MLA said that the administration pressurised him for not performing the prayer at the site where ruins of the mosque had come into existence when the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was digging for construction of an underground metro railway station. Setting aside the administration's appeal, the MLA said that ruins were the evidence of the mosque being their in 1857. The revenue record also confirmed that mosque existed there. A group of Hindu saints was also coming to the site to recite Hanuman Chalisa. But the police stopped them near Jain temple. |

LED bulbs to light up city streets
New Delhi, July 20 The power distribution companies suggested that LED lights are significant in order to conserve "LEDs are the future of lighting, as unlike CFLs, they contain zero mercury and arsenic and save around 50 per cent more electricity than CFLs. Such initiatives go a long way in conserving energy," said Dikshit. The LED bulbs or tube lights fit perfectly into the existing light sockets. For the initiative, BRPL has tied up with Sahasra Electronics to supply LED lights at discounted prices. "These lights have a significantly longer life than both the CFLs and incandescent bulbs. The average lifespan of a premium LED bulb is around 50,000 hours compared to 8,000-10,000 hours of a CFL and around 1,200 hours of an incandescent bulb," said BRPL CEO Gopal Saxena. "A person can buy LED products at a starting price of Rs 399 for a 7-watt bulb, which is equivalent to a 60 watt incandescent bulb and a 15 watt CFL. As part of the scheme, LED tube lights and spot lights are also available," he said. |
