DMC orders dismantling of 53 buildings on Chakrata Road
Dehradun, July 11 A delegation of these people met Mayor Vinod Chamoli and Mukhya Nagar Adhikari Ashok Kumar, who assured them that only those buildings would be razed which were considered highly vulnerable. Those served with the notices were also told to break down the projections of the partially dismantled buildings, which were hanging above, themselves or else they could pose a danger to people passing through the road. They were also asked to reconstruct the affected parts of the buildings. But since they are required to take permission from the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) for any new construction on Chakrata Road, a meeting of the traders was fixed with vicen chairman of MDDA on Thursday, where representatives from the DMC would also participate. Shashikant Goyal, president of Chakrata Traders' Association, said most of those who had been served with notices had their premises in good condition. He questioned the parametres to declare any building dilapidated. The other traders, too, were angry for being "harassed to dismantle their buildings within a short span of three days.' The buildings notified as dilapidated were identified by a committee constituted by the District Magistrate, wherein the MDDA was entrusted with the task of construction, whereas the district administration was given the responsibility of ensuring safety by preventing illegal constructions, while the DMC was asked to remove the dilapidated buildings on
Chakrata Road . It was after the roof of a worn out building came down on last Sunday that the district administration pressed the DMC to take swift action for removal of dilapidated buildings. Ravi Pandey, Executive Engineer, cautioned the traders not to be casual about the vulnerable buildings, saying the city came under seismic zone and an earthquake of the magnitude of 7 on the Richter Scale, as predicted by the concerned authority, could shake it any time. He also gave them a word of advice for not being negligent while undertaking new construction with full safety measures. |
