Accused surrenders in Yannick case:
Another accused in the Yannick Nizhanga assault case, Harsh Gosain, today surrendered before a local court. Accompanied by his counsel, Harsh Gosain surrendered in the court of Duty Magistrate at about 6 pm. He was later sent to judicial custody. Deputy Commissioner of Police Sarbjit Singh said the police would seek his police remand tomorrow. A resident of New Jawahar Nagar, Harsh had been on the run since April 22. Another accused Amarbir Singh Bajwa, who was arrested yesterday, was today remanded to one-day police custody. The DCP said two more accused, Rantash and Bantu, were still at large. The police has issued a look-out circular to arrest Jaskaran Singh alias Jassa, another accused in the case, who has reportedly fled to Australia.

7 held in honour killing case
: In a suspected case of honour killing, the police today arrested seven persons, including the father and two brothers of a girl who was allegedly hacked to death along with her husband in Phullewala village last week. Moga SSP Surjit Singh Grewal said the dead bodies of Kulwant Kaur and her husband Jagtar Singh, who had reportedly married against the wishes of their families about a year ago, were recovered from two different spots in Moga and Faridkot districts. Gurpal Singh, girl's father, along with his sons and other persons allegedly kidnapped the couple and later killed them. The police had started an investigation after a complaint by Jagtar's father.

House burgled:
Naresh Kumar, a resident of Sector 46, reported that thieves decamp with a gold set, one pair of gold earrings, one gold ring, one pair of silver anklet, one silver bangle, one Samsung TV, one LCD and one laptop from his house in between July 5 and July 9 when he was out of station.

Immigration fraud: Charanjit Singh, a resident of Nawansahar, alleged that Kulwinder Singh Deol and Harkirat Singh took Rs 1,25,000 from him to send him abroad on work permit. But he neither sends him abroad nor returned his money. A case under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC has been registered.

Power shutdown in Panchkula:
Power supply to Sectors 2, 9, 7, New Water Works and DIET would remain suspended from 9 am to 2 pm on July 12. The UHBVN spokesman said that it was due to the checking and rectifying the fault of 11 KV CT/ PT at the 66 KV sub-station in Sector 1.

Fencing trials from tomorrow:
The J&K Amateur Fencing Association will conduct selection trials from July 13 to 15 at MA Stadium. The trials will be held to select the state team for the forthcoming 14th Sub-Junior and 9th Cadet National Fencing Championship slated to be held at Gwalior, MP, from August 9 to 14. The fencers must be u-14 and u-17 on January 1, 2013.

Minor girl hangs herself: A minor girl hanged herself here on Tuesday night. Reports said the deceased was a Class VIII student. She was brought to the Government Medical College and Hospital after she was found hanging with a ceiling fan at her residence at Sheikh Nagar, Bahu Fort. Doctors declared her brought dead and sent her body for a postmortem. A case under Section 174 of the RPC has been registered at Bahu Fort Police station and the investigation is on.

Power staff memo to CMO:
Members of Uttarakhand Bijli Karamchari Sangh submitted a memorandum in the office of the Chief Minister as well as Secretary, Power, making demands for removal of discrepancies in the orders related to pensioners and grade scale and DA for daily wagers. General Secretary of organisation KR Kashyap said a fair and equal treatment was not given to the employees of all the three corporations of the Power Department.
