Chhatbir zoo authorities, UT administration at loggerheads
Chandigarh, July 9
The Forest and Wildlife Department of the UT administration and the Chhatbir Zoo authorities are at loggerheads over the release of the leopard
captured from the Indian Air Force (IAF) station in March. After giving sleepless nights for about 11 days to officials of the UT Forest and Wildlife Department, the leopard was kept at Chhatbir zoo.
The UT Forest and Wildlife Department had already sent two letters to the zoo authorities to release the leopard, but the zoo authorities are not willing to release the wild cat on medical grounds.

Rain hampers de-silting drive
Chandigarh, July 9
Though the recent rainfall in the city had brought relief to residents of the city, it had affected the de-silting drive at the city’s landmark, Sukhna Lake. An official of the UT engineering department said the rain had made the de-silting work difficult, as use of heavy machinery on the wet surface is not easy.

72 diarrhoea cases reported

CHB Residents’ Federation launches chain fast

Adding another dimension to their ongoing agitation, members of the CHB Residents’ Federation launched chain fast in eight sectors and Dhanas village here today. The day-long agitation would continue till July 14. It would end at a rally at the Sector-40 market on July 15.
