Taxi driver held with pistol

Jalandhar, April 16
The Anti-Narcotic Cell of the city police today arrested a taxi driver and recovered .315-bore country-made pistol, two live cartridges and 220 gm of intoxicant powder. A case under the Arms Act and NDPS Act has been registered against him. The accused has been identified as Varun, resident of Guru Gobind Singh Avenue here.

Police sources said a naka was erected in Guru Gobind Singh Avenue for routine checking and on suspicion policemen signalled a pedestrian to stop for checking and recovered the pistol, cartridges and intoxicant powder.

Cash, ornaments stolen

Burglars struck at a house in Birring village last night and decamped with Rs 1.20 lakh and ornaments worth Rs 15 lakh.

The house owner, Vishnu Dada, said last night they had slept in the corridor and the burglars enterd the house after scaling the outer wall.

They broke the iron grill of a room where safe was kept and decamped with the ornaments and cash.
