TERCENTENARY CELEBRATIONS

Baisakhi celebrated with gaiety, fervour 
Jalandhar, April 13
Singing of religious hymns, poetry sessions and ‘katha’ regarding the installation of the Khalsa Panth marked Baisakhi celebrations in all gurdwaras here.
As a prelude to the celebrations, the management of Gurdwara Singh Sabha, Model Town, took to some novel ways to celebrate the festival to involve youngsters by holding a turban tying contest and screening of a film. Nearly 67 boys participated in the contest, during which they were given a mirror and 10 minutes to tie the turban. Of the total contestants, 17 were from Classes III to VI, 20 from Classes VII to IX and 30 from Classes X to XII. Davinderpal Singh, Prabhjot Singh, Joharvir Singh and Jaspreet Singh won prizes in the first category. In the Classes VII to IX and senior categories, Ishnoor Singh and Dilsher Singh won the first prize, Amritpal Singh and Karanpreet Singh stood second and Harmanjot Singh and Jaspinder Singh won the third prize. The management also screened a one-hour film on Baba Banda Singh Bahadur last evening. Atam Parkash Singh, president of the gurdwara, said that a jatha from Sri Harimandir Sahib performed at the gurdwara today
