Our Correspondent

Jalandhar, February 15
The city police has booked a lawyer and his wife for allegedly forging the property documents of an NRI woman and transferring the same in their name. The accused have been identified as Rajesh Bhardwaj and his wife Karuna Bhardwaj. They have been booked under Sections 406, 420, 448, 465, 467, 468, 471, 474 and 120-B of the IPC. The complainant, Avtar Kaur, told the police that she was a permanent resident of England, but had a property in the Model Town locality of the city. "When I was here in November last year and was planning to return abroad, my neighbours Rajesh and Karuna assured me to take care of my house," she said. The couple also convinced her to sign some documents, she added. "When I returned India last month, I was stunned as the couple, after forging documents, registered the house in their name. When questioned, they told me that I had sold off the house to them, the complainant alleged. The victim had filed a complaint at the NRI police station. After investigations, the Deputy Commissioner of Police found that couple had forged the documents. Vinod Kumar, inspector, NRI police station, said the couple were still at large.
