Nishank supports Ramdev
Haridwar, June 5 Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, who met Ramdev at his Patanjali Yogpeeth, assured him of full support to carry out the second phase of his movement. At the same time he termed the police action at the Ramleela Ground in New Delhi as a “murder of democratic ideals”. Nishank said the ongoing movement by Ramdev was in national interest and its success would pave the way for a corruption-free society. Nishank talked to Ramdev in a closed-room meeting at the ashram for more than 20 minutes and after the meeting both appeared before the media. The yoga guru thanked Nishank for support to his movement, adding that he has still not decided on the venue in the state for the second phase of his movement, as he wanted to carry out the movement from Delhi only, provided the Delhi Government gives permission for it. Otherwise, he will definitely try to continue the movement from Uttarakhand only. “The issues raised by Ramdev are in national interest. So everyone should be standing along with him. But, the way the Central Government acted at the Ramleela Ground goes against the very principles of ahimsa (non-violence) that the Congress used to propagate earlier,” said Nishank. Meanwhile, the visit of the Chief Minister and presence of a large number of BJP leaders at Patanjali Yogpeeth lent credence to the speculation that the ongoing movement has full support of the BJP and other allies of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal. Replying a question by the media, Baba Ramdev termed the visit by Nishank as non-political one. He said they both had mutual respect, admiration and concern for each other. When told that there were talks that his movement was being hijacked by the BJP and the RSS, an angry Ramdev said: “Every person irrespective of his origin, religion, faith, party, region and affinity is welcome to my ‘satyagraha’. So no one should have any doubt whatsoever, as be it Hindu or Muslim everyone whose intent is right, is welcome to the movement, but only as a common supporter. This was evident at Ramleela Ground too. So, don’t weaken the faith of billions of people who are involved in this movement, which can prove to be a turning point for the entire nation”. |

Cong for CBI probe into yoga guru’s ‘misdeeds’
Dehradun, June 5 Addressing mediapersons here today, Rawat, showing the government orders, alleged that the yoga Guru had evaded stamp duty in the purchase of various lands in Haridwar. He said the authorities had fined Patanjali Yogapeeth of Baba Ramdev in 16 such cases for the alleged stamp duty evasion. Rawat charged that Baba Ramdev, who had allegedly amassed so much wealth and had been running a business enterprise, had no moral right to point fingers at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi. He also accused Baba Ramdev of doing politics in the garb of doing yoga at Ram Leela ground in New Delhi. The Leader of Opposition and senior Congress leader also pointed a finger at Acharya Bal Krishna, a close aide of Baba Ramdev. Showing official papers, he alleged that Acharya Bal Krishna was a Nepali citizen but had fraudulently taken an Indian passport and had even travelled on it abroad. On his alleged land deals, Rawat charged that the lands of the villagers in Jawalapur tehsil were taken over by the state government in connivance with Baba Ramdev in utter violation of the law. “The lands were taken in the name of yoga and ayurveda but Baba Ramdev has been doing pure business making crores of rupees from his venture. Some of the land on lease to poor farmers could not even be sold as per the law,” he charged. Our Correspondent adds from Mussoorie: Members of the Bharat Swabhiman Trust, Patanjali Yogpeeth, the BJP and senior citizens staged a dharna ín protest against police ‘brutality’ at the Ramlila Maidan in Delhi, at Jhoola Ghar today. They condemned the use of brutal force by the police, wherein it allegedly dragged and manhandled women and children. Mussoorie BJP President Roop Singh Kathait also flayed the Union Government for the forcible eviction of Swami Ramdev from the maidan. Members of the trust said this incident had proved that the Congress and the government were not interested in addressing the issue of corruption and black money by “shielding” the corrupt. However, state president of the All-India Rahul Gandhi Brigade Sunit Singh Rathore said Swami Ramdev’s satyagrah was “politically motivated” and had the backing of the RSS and the BJP. |

Initially, he had been declared winner by a margin of 17 votes but later a recounting was done and 19 ballots cast in his favour were disqualified on various grounds, leading to the victory of Jagdev Singh by two votes. Till the re-counting is done as per the court order, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Lakshar, will be handling the office of the Lakshar nagar panchayat chief. |

Shiv Sena holds protest against unemployment
Dehradun, June 5 Virender Singh Rawat, president of the district unit of the Shiv Sena, said the people of the state were angry with the government. “A large number of people had fought for the separate state of Uttarakhand, but now they feel cheated, as they have not been provided with any facility. On the other hand statehood has only proved to be beneficial for the politicians,” he claimed. Rawat stated if the state government couldn’t give jobs to the youth, then it should start providing them with some allowance till the time they are able to get jobs or the government should provide them with jobs. If youngsters were not provided with job opportunities, then they would definitely leave the state in search of jobs, he added. Another leader of the party Gaurav Kumar stated that many schemes had been started by the state government, but still a large number of youngsters were unemployed. “If the state government failed to take any action in this regard soon, we would protest on wider scale. If the state government can’t provide jobs to its people, it should quit,” he added. |

Baba Hardev: A loving heart only exudes peace
Mussoorie, June 5 The Baba, addressing a large Sunday gathering, said that love was the source that could bring happiness and joy in every heart and the saints acted as a bridge in establishing the relationship between the source of love and human beings. Speaking further, he said people worshipped one entity although in different forms and it was this realisation that connected them to the almighty. The Nirankari Baba said it was due to ignorance and lack of knowledge that human beings had remained detached from love. Religion was bound in the shackles of communities and when human beings connected with the Lord in the true sense, all bondages were broken irrespective of any caste or creed and it was then that awakening filled with love took place. The Nirnakari Baba also said that saints had always inspired people towards devotion leading to love for God and service to mankind by living in the community itself instead of living a life of austerity. The devotees from Himanchal, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Punjab and Haryana heard their seer with rapt attention and sought his blessings at the end of the discourse. |
