India to open 2011 WC campaign against B’desh
Mumbai, November 9 Placed in Group B, alongside South Africa, England, West Indies, Bangladesh, Ireland and Netherlands, India will host 29 matches of the quadrennial tournament, including the final and a semifinal. The first match on Indian soil will have New Zealand and Kenya locking horns in Chennai on February 20. Denied hosting rights owing to security concerns, Pakistan will play all their group A matches in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka, set to host the second biggest chunk of 12 matches in the event, will have their first game on February 20 with the hosts taking on Canada. The Lankans are in group A, which also has defending champions Australia, Zimbabwe and Kenya. Bangladesh, which will host two quarterfinals, will have just eight matches in all to organise. India's commercial capital Mumbai will host the final of the event on April 2. Mohali will host one of the semi-finals along with two other matches, while Ahmedabad will host a quarter-final and two other games. Kolkata and Delhi will host one India and three other matches each. Jaipur has been left out of the list of venues with Nagpur, Chennai and Bangalore getting one India game each. The 2011 event will be a week shorter than the 2007 edition, which was held in West Indies. "The announcement of the match schedule for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 is an exciting development as not only does it allow all our stakeholders to start planning their tours but it will also remind everyone that we are getting closer to the staging of the biggest event in world cricket, where the leading cricketers from all over the globe will battle it out for the top prize in the game," ICC Vice-President Sharad Pawar said.

Terry heads Blues to the top
London, November 9 Chelsea had been frustrated by United for 76 minutes, but then profited from a contentiously awarded free kick when United midfielder Darren Fletcher was judged to have fouled defender Ashley Cole yesterday. Frank Lampard whipped the ball into the penalty area and Terry connected with a glancing header to clinch Chelsea’s 11th consecutive win in all competitions at Stamford Bridge. “It was a bad decision, but there’s nothing we can do about it. You lose faith in refereeing sometimes,” said United manager Alex Ferguson, who is already facing a Football Association punishment for criticising match officials. “The referee’s position to make the decision was absolutely ridiculous, he can’t see anything. He’s got a Chelsea player (Joe Cole) standing right in front of him and he doesn’t even move.” Chelsea’s victory leaves it top of the table with 30 points, ahead of a two-week break for international matches. Second-place Arsenal, which has a game in hand, and Man United both have 25 points, while Tottenham is fourth with 22. United pressed hard and packed its midfield to subdue a Chelsea side that had scored 19 goals in its five previous matches. Wayne Rooney was deployed as a lone striker for United, which was missing Dimitar Berbatov through injury and had Michael Owen on the substitutes’ bench as England coach Fabio Capello watched. While hardworking, Rooney was isolated at times and starved of support, although after 10 minutes he turned Ricardo Carvalho but could only hit the side netting from a tight angle. Teammate Michael Carrick tried his luck from distance in the first half, but Chelsea keeper Petr Cech easily collected and saw the next effort from the United midfielder fly high into the stands. United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar had little do, but the Dutchman denied Branislav Ivanovic in the opening minutes and produced a one-handed diving save to push Nicolas Anelka’s shot wide before the break.
