Swine flu: First victim from tricity dies
Chandigarh/Panchkula, November 9
The tricity has registered its first toll due to swine flu when a 17-year-old girl from Panchkula died at PGI, here today. The deceased, identified as Pallavi Kwatra, a resident of Sector 7, was a student of Class X in Moti Ram Arya School in the same sector. Earlier, the three patients of swine flu who died at different hospitals of tricity in the recent past belonged to Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.

Sanction of prosecution pending against IAS, IPS officers: CBI

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today said the prosecution against some senior IAS and IPS officials into three sensational cases, including the Moga sex scandal, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) scam and the Forest Hill Resort scandal, was pending for sanctions in various departments of the Punjab government.

Sec-18 govt building to be pulled down

One of the oldest government buildings in Sector 18 here, currently housing offices of Punjab and Haryana, will be demolished to make way for a new multi-storey building.

High Court lawyer HC Arora has lodged a complaint with the Legal Education Committee of the Bar Council of India about the falling standards of legal education in the Rajiv Gandhi National Law University, Patiala, and sought its intervention in the matter.

40 structures razed in Sector 55

City hospital conducts surgery, seen live in Paris

The Punjab and Haryana High Court issued notice of motion to the CBI director and union ministry of home affairs, while taking up a PIL seeking CBI probe into the cash-for-job scam, allegedly involving DPI (S) Samwartak Singh.

SI gets 7-year RI

A local court today sentenced UT Police sub-inspector Narinder Singh to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on him, finding him guilty in a case custodial death dating back to July 2007.

Thieves struck at Gurdwara Singh Sabha, Sector 7, and took away about Rs 55,000, here last night. The gurdwara management said the theft was committed after the gurdwara was closed at 9.30 pm.

Trials to select cricket probables

After winning the toss, UP elected to bat first and scored 135 runs for the loss of two wickets in the stipulated 25 overs. Chaya with 56 runs not out and Shalu with 48 not out were the main scorers for their team.
