Students from Arunachal Pradesh submit memo to CM
Dehradun, October 18 The students of the ITITI, an affiliate of Sangh Parivar, demanded the creation of a separate Arunachal Battalion to thwart any mischief from China and defend the country. The students' delegation, led by Japken Kena, a class X student, said the youth of Arunachal Pradesh wanted to join the Indian Army to defend the country against any kind of misadventure by the Chinese. Chief Minister Nishank, who received the memorandum, assured the students that it would be sent to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The Chief Minister said the youth of the country was ever prepared to make any sacrifice for the motherland and the memorandum by young Arunachal Pradesh students pointed to the fact that the country would be safe. The memorandum said, "We, the students of Arunachal Pradesh, want to express the concern and resolve of all Arunachal people regarding the arrogant, war-mongering interventions of China that claims that Arunachal is its territory. We and our parents want to convey to the Chinese people and their expansionist government that there is no India without Arunachal and no Arunachal without India. We are first Indians and then anything else”. The students further said, "We, the Arunachalis, are very patriotic people and will shed the last drop of our blood in defending our mighty India. We are cautioning China that it should not flare up tensions and hurt the peaceful people, otherwise it must remember that 2009 is not 1962 and we are well prepared for any eventuality”. |

Dehradun, October 18 Interestingly, last week the Chief Minister made seven of the party legislators parliamentary secretaries to placate them. Now, three ruling party legislators and 22 senior party functionaries, including former legislators, have been given these positions. After taking over the reins of the state from Major-Gen BC Khanduri
(retd) in June this year, Dr Nishank had asked all those holding such positions to submit their resignations. Since June, most of the senior party leaders were anticipating getting these positions again. It is after a wait of three and half months that the Chief Minister has appointed 25 state BJP leaders to various ministerial-rank
posts. Bansi Dhar Bhagat, a former state Forest Minister who lost the cabinet berth following the change of guard in June, was given the post of Deputy Chairman of the 20-point
programme. Former Health Minister Ajay Bhatt will be the new adviser to the Health Department. Former state BJP presidents Manohar Kant Dhyani and Puran Chand Sharma have been made Deputy Chairmen of the state planning commission and state Mandi
Parishad, respectively. Balraj Pasi, a former member of Parliament from
Nainital, will head the seed certification agency of Uttarakhand. Former state party president and former Union Minister Bachi Singh Rawat has turned down an offer to accept such a post. “I am a humble worker, it will be better if other deserving leaders get such posts,” said
Rawat. Three general secretaries of the Uttarakhand state BJP namely Ajay
Bhatt, Naresh Bansal and Tirath Singh Rawat have also been given these
positions. Surender Singh Zina, party legislator from Kumoan, has been made Chairman of Kumoan Mandal Vikas Nigam
(KMVN) while Anil Nautiyal, another party legislator from Garhwal, has got the coveted position of Chairman of Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam
(GMVN). Sports Minister Narayan Singh Rana and father of ace shooter Jaspal Rana has been made Chairman of the State Level Sports Council. No women leader could find place in the list. Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has said that third and fourth list of such positions would be released in future. Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition, Harak Singh Rawat criticized the BJP government of giving such plum positions to party leaders and legislators. He charged that BJP had come to power in the state on the issue of alleged distribution of such positions by previous Congress government led by Narain Datt
Tiwari. ? It is a shame that now BJP government has been squandering the public money in distributing such ministerial positions to party leaders as Diwali gifts,? he charged. |

Clear doubts on missing N-device: MP
Dehradun, October 18 It was in 1965 that American intelligence agency, in collaboration with India, put a nuclear-powered device at the Nanda Devi peak to spy on suspected Chinese military missiles in Tibet. A group of American and Indian climbers were given the task to set up the device, but due to inclement weather conditions, the climbers left it behind and came back. All efforts later to find the device had proved futile. Maharaj, in his letter, wrote that probably the device had melted the surrounding ice and burrowed its way to the underlying rocks. Several top secret expeditions had been organised to look out for the device, but without any success, Maharaj wrote. He said the main concern was not the contamination of the mountains for the next three centuries, but the pollution of the ice-fed rivers by radio active material. Maharaj said the Nanda Devi peak was closed after it was rumoured that some climbers had died of radiation poisoning. Maharaj reminded the Prime Minister that in 1978, following the publication of the apprehensions of the coming disaster in some American magazines, the then Prime Minister Morarji Desai took it up seriously to find out the its effect on people of Garhwal, but the American authorities informed the Indian government that if any radioactive emissions ever reached the rivers, those would be too diluted to harm anyone. Maharaj requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to find out the truth of the matter by using the latest technological devices to wash off the psychosis of people of the area. He asked for the institution of a proper inquiry regarding the matter and issue an official statement to clear the doubts once and for all. Asked whether he had received any response from the Prime Minister on the issue, Maharaj said he was still awaiting a reply. |
