Gautam still hopeful BJP will reconsider decision
Tribune News Service
Sirsa, November 13 Gautam says the NDA is doomed to lose all 10 seats in Haryana in case the alliance continues till the parliamentary elections. Talking to mediapersons here today, the BJP MLA, who has taken up cudgels against his party ever since it has aligned with Chautala, ridiculed the recent statements of the former Chief Minister that the alliance between the INLD and the BJP was a union of hearts and not union of parties or to put in Chautala's words “yeh dillon ka mail hai, dalon ka nahin”. Gautam said here the “backs of the two parties had united and not hearts”, and the two were still seeing in diametrically opposite directions. The BJP MLA came down heavily on his party’s state-level leaders, who, he alleged, had misguided the party high command for their vested interests on the issue of alliance. Gautam alleged that these leaders had, in fact, jeopardised Lal Krishan Advani’s chances of becoming the Prime Minister of the country after the forthcoming elections. Pooh-poohing the statements of some state-level leaders of the party, particularly state president Atam Parkash Manchanda, demanding his resignation for criticising the party, Gautam claimed that he had become MLA due to his personal rapport with the electorate and not due to any wave of the BJP. “As many as 88 of the 90 candidates of the BJP had lost the elections badly, when I won the election to become MLA. So nobody can guide me on resigning,” he said scornfully. “Notwithstanding the claims of these rootless leaders, the fact of the matter is that grassroots workers of the party have felt cheated on this alliance. The thin attendance of BJP workers in the November 1 rally of the NDA at Sonepat is a testimony to it,” Guatam said. He refuted charges that he had been speaking the language of the Congress and wanted to cross over to that party. “I consider Bhupinder Singh Hooda the worst sinner as he failed to take action against the Chautalas after coming to power. Had he exposed the misdeeds committed by Chautalas during their regime and brought them to book, much of the corruption that is prevalent today would have been eliminated,” Gautam maintained. He said he did not want to become MLA or MP by compromising on his principles. |
Over 10 lakh pilgrims take holy dip on Kartik Purnima
Kapal Mochan (Bilaspur), November 13 All banks of the sarovars - Kapal Mochan, Rin Mochan and Suraj Kund - were jampacked. A long row of devotees was seen at the sarovars as taking a dip here is considered to be auspicious after midnight. Keeping in view the religious sanctity of this place and inflow of pilgrims, the state government has designated this fair as of state level. The fair required strong administrative work and planning. While a large number of pilgrims thronged the town for salvation, neither any state minister nor any local MLA took interest in the activities or arrangements of the fair. They did not even come forward for the inaugural function or on the concluding day. Leaders of neither the ruling party nor other parties visited the place during the fair. As many as 2,000 police personnel, including senior officials, had been deployed to streamline the pilgrims. The reserved space of 90 acres for the fair tuned out to be less to accommodate the pilgrims. Thousands of the devotees were left with no choice but to stay in open as temples, gurdwaras and dharamshalas had already been occupied. The administration had banned the consumption and sale of liquor in the fair area. However, one revenue officer was beaten up by pilgrims when he allegedly used foul language in drunken state in front of the deputy commissioner base camp in the fair here late night on the second day of the fair. Besides, consumption of liquor was seen at many places. Devotees came here from various states, including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi and Rajasthan. However, most of the pilgrims hailed from Punjab. All senior officials, including deputy commissioner A.K. Aggarwal, additional deputy commissioner Narender Singh and SP C.S. Rao, visited the fair at midnight. |
Solar power plan finds favour
Gurgaon, November 13 The government wants to make Gurgaon a solar city by requesting residents to adopt solar equipments in place of diesel genset captive power. Secretary of the ministry of new and renewable energy Deepak Gupta was here to know the response of stakeholders about the launching of such a scheme. He also presided over a consultation meet on rooftop grid interactive solar PV system for electricity generation organised by Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency (HAREDA), which was attended by various stakeholders like nursing homes, hospitals, IT parks, hotels, malls, housing complexes, industries and schools. Receiving an overwhelming response from the stakeholders, Gupta said, “In my opinion, the government should go ahead with the scheme.” He said the power generated through gensets could not be used for longer periods, as the price of diesel had been soaring high and petroleum reservoirs were constantly exhausting. Moreover, the emission of harmful gases like CO2 caused environmental hazards, Gupta added. He further said it was high time that people should think of adopting solar energy system as a part of his life. On being asked that why they selected Gurgaon for this project, Sumita Mishra, director, HAREDA, mentioned, “We have chosen Gurgaon for this project because people with different line of thinking reside here who believe in bringing change. Moreover, the building sector here has a rapid growth rate of more than 20 per cent as against national average of 11 per cent.” She also told about various schemes being run by the HAREDA for the promotion of solar energy system. Mishra said, “A capital subsidy on domestic solar water heating system up to Rs 10,000 for all Haryana residents is being given and Haryana is the only state in India to provide 90 per cent financial assistance on installation of solar water heating system (SWHS) in social sector institutions like old age home, working women hostel and the like.” During the last financial year, 1,30,000-litre capacity of SWHS was installed in the state leading to a peak load saving of 1.3 MW and reduction of emission of 1,950 tonnes of CO2,” she added. Mishra affirmed that incentives had resulted in a phenomenal increase in installation of SWHS in the domestic sector and during 2007-08, 125 domestic solar water heating systems of 30,000-litre capacity were installed in the state. Gurgaon topped the list where 27 systems with approximate 5,000-litre capacity were installed. Naming some of the institutions where this system has been installed, she said Brahmkumari Ashram of Bhorakalan village had the largest steam cooking system in the country where food for 2,000 persons was prepared daily besides the solar water heating system. “Financial assistance by way of soft loans through 30 banks is being provided for installing this eco-friendly system,” Mishra added. |
