Hisar, November 6
Girl students of all local colleges went on a flash strike today after a student of Dayanand College forcibly kissed a girl student to win a bet of Rs 100 he had placed with his friends.

The shocking incident took place last evening in full view of college students. The boy absconded after the incident. He has been identified as Kulbir who hails from Narwana in Jind district.

When the college reopened this morning, girl students of the college collected outside the gate. From there they went to every local college and gathered support. Later, they blocked traffic at Fountain Chowk and Parijat Chowk throwing life out of gear in the town.

A deputation of the girls met additional deputy commissioner Ashima Garg seeking action against the boy concerned. They submitted a memorandum seeking arrest of the boy within 24 hours.

The student has since been suspended from the college and a criminal case has been registered against him on the complaint of the college authorities.

Meanwhile, the police has constituted anti-eve-teasing squads and posted these outside all colleges to check such incidents.

The incident has evoked strong reactions from several local social organisations. In separate statements, they have demanded immediate steps to ensure discipline among students.

A flour mill owner administered poison to his wife and three children at Charkhi Dadri last night. Later, he also consumed poison, but failed in his suicide attempt.

He then tried to hang himself with a saree from a hook in the ceiling, but fell down.

Rishi Prakash (43) administered poison to wife Renu (40), daughters Preiti (17) and Neha (15) and son Aman (9). They all died within a few minutes.

This morning when none of the family members came out, neighbours suspected something foul and entered the house and noticed the crime. They admitted Rishi to a private nursing home where his condition has been stated as serious.

It is learnt that Rishi had availed of a loan of Rs 20 lakh for setting up a flour mill from Punjab National Bank, Charkhi Dadri branch. For the past three months, his mill was closed and the bank was sending him recovery notices. The bank authorities confirmed that Rishi had taken a loan of Rs 20 lakh in 2006.

BEd students meet DC
Tribune News Service

Rohtak, November 6
Students of Saraswati Vidya Mandir College of Education, Meham, today met deputy commissioner R.S. Doon and complained that the college management was charging excess fees from them.

The students said that the college authorities were charging Rs 10,000 from each student in addition to the fee prescribed by the university. When they demanded their money back, the management refused to do so and threatened them.

The students informed Doon that they had also apprised the authorities of Maharshi Dayanand University of the matter, but to no avail. The students alleged that a girl student from the last batch of the college was being denied character certificate as she had dared to raise her voice against the irregularities being committed by the college management.

The college has suspended another student for raising his voice against the college authorities. He was being pressurised by the management to migrate to some other college.

4 get life term for dowry death

Kaithal, November 6
Additional Sessions Judge Dr Neelima Shangla sentenced four persons to rigorous life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 each after convicting them in a dowry death case here today.

The court has ordered that the fine from the accused should be paid to the parents of the deceased, Rekha Devi.

The accused will further undergo a 3-year imprisonment if they fail to pay the fine.

Three months after the marriage, Dharam Pal, his father Ragubir Singh, mother Shanti Devi and brother Raj Kumar started harassing Rekha for bringing insufficient dowry. Around the world in ‘toy car’

Panipat, November 6
Crossing continents by road and that too in a two-cylinder car built 27 years ago calls for lot of guts and a little bit of madness.

Recently The Tribune caught up, literally, with a husband-wife duo from France racing away in their car through the chaotic Panipat traffic and had to communicate with them through sign language, as their English was as good as our French, requesting for an interview. The intrepid couple from the French city of Perpignan located on the France-Spain border started their journey on August 1 and have till date covered 17,000 km.

Lee Tardy (26), who is a mechanic by profession back home, is on this adventure tour with his wife Christelle Carre (27). Both have been together since the past 14 years and married only recently.

“We intend to start a family after we are back home,” said Lee. “We are not undertaking this adventure to set some record. We just want to see the world,” he disclosed.

They spent a month each in Turkey and Iran, a fortnight in Pakistan and intend to stay for a month in India, Lee said.

Their mode of transport is the iconic Citroen 2 CV. “The car has proved to be extremely reliable in spite of its age. It has an air-cooled 600 cc engine, which is very easy to repair and maintenance free. The only demand it has put on us is an engine oil and filter change. Moreover, I am mechanic and know this car like the back of my hand,” he said. “The journey has been really smooth and we have not faced any kind of hostility till we reached Kurukshetra,” he said.

“We prefer sleeping in our vehicle and have kitted it out accordingly. When we reached Kurukshetra, we searched for a secluded spot and when we found one, we decided to stop there for the night,” he said.

“Two men came out of nowhere and started banging their hands on the vehicle shouting at us. We could not understand what they were saying so we decided to stay inside the vehicle. When they realised that we were not responding, one of them smashed the front window and left,” said Lee.

“We intend to be on the road for one year and hopefully we will be able to finish our journey in that time,” said Lee.
