Now, teachers to peep into history

The school heads were told to dig out information regarding forts, manuscripts and belongings of the erstwhile rulers of the region. The teachers revealed that since the district was the headquarters of various rulers, it houses various historical monuments, underground tunnels and manuscripts. The participants discussed in detail the history of Baradari Garden, which is said to have been visited by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in 1831, Gunachaur, a township set up by Raja Gopi Chand atop a mound near Mukandpur and Banga village which was the capital of Raja Bharthari. Says Deedar Singh Shetra, a retired government school principal, who is coordinating the entire work: “Jadla village has some remains of Mohenjodaro and Harappa civilisations. The district is quite rich when it comes to heritage sites. Rahon has scores of temples, the oldest government school, an old MC building and an old mazar. The town was set up for trade links with neighbouring country. The foreigners used to enter here from Delhi Darwaza, a short cut for the national capital.” Similarly, Asron too is an important historic site, he said. The retired principal is collecting the valuable historical information and would present it during a state-level meeting, scheduled to be held soon. |
