Mother and 2 children asphyxiate to death
Jalandhar, January 5 They have been identified as Chaurasa, wife of Dev Raj, a dhobi, who runs a shop in Basti Sheikh, her two-year-old daughter and one-year-old son Munna. Dev Raj is being treated for breathlessness at the local Civil Hospital, where his neighbours admitted him early morning today. The minus zero degree chill of Thursday evening forced Dev Raj, a migrant from Uttar Pradesh, to bring and place a coal stove (angithi) in their room. The room had no ventilation, the poisonous carbon monoxide gas sniffed life out of Chaurasa and her two children. Omparkash, a neighbour of Dev Raj, noticed no movement in or around the house of Dev Raj. He called other neighbours and broke open the door. They were stunned to see all four members lying in an unconscious state. Further investigations and medical examination at the local civil hospital revealed that except for Dev Raj all the three members of the family had died. Neighbours called Vidya, Dev Raj’s brother who, works with Dev Raj at his Basti Sheikh shop to the spot. “We have been ruined by the accident. The New Year has brought nothing but death for us.” |
