Nagar kirtan taken out Batala, January 4 The procession, started from Gurdwara Kandh Sahib, was led by Panj Pyaras. It passed through Dharampura Colony, the Quadian octroi post, Jalandhar Road, Sukha Singh Mehtab Singh Chowk, Shastri Nagar, Vishwakarma Road, Gurdwara Guru Teg Bahadur, Guru Nanak Nagar, Nehru Gate, Bhandari Gate and concluded at Gurdwara Kandh Sahib in the evening. The entire procession route was decorated with banners. The police made elaborate arrangements in this regard. HOSHIARPUR: A Nagar Kirtan on the eve of the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh was taken out by the Singh Sabha in the town. Thousands of men, women and children, including leaders of various political parties, participated. Bazaars were decorated and illuminated to mark the occasion. PATHANKOT: A nagar kirtan was taken out here on Thursday. The procession started from Singh Sabha Gurdwara, Saraian mohalla, and passed through various decorated bazaars. Sweets were distributed among devotees at many places. |
Over 20 pc polling booths sensitive: DC Jalandhar, January 4 The number of sensitive polling stations may further increase as all stations would further be reviewed after January 29, the last date of withdrawal of nomination papers, he added. As of now, 271 stations are sensitive and 13 hypersensitive out of the 1,368 polling stations in the district. The highest number of stations is in the Kartarpur constituency with 45 sensitive and one hypersensitive. He said 13.63 lakh electors might exercise their right to franchise. While 41,186 new voters were registered, 38, 550 were deleted as either they were shifted to some other place or died. In other words, an increase of 0.19 per cent of the electors had been recorded in 2007 electoral rolls as compared to the 2002 Assembly elections, he added. While the final publication of the voter list was done on Wednesday, even then those eligible voters whose name had been missing in the list might contact electoral registration officers concerned of his constituency to get his or her name included in the list by January 15. He said the work of photography of voters would be done till January 15 and voters without photo identity cards should avail this opportunity to get themselves photographed. |
Miscreants damage foundation stone Hoshiarpur, January 4 On the complaint of the sarpanch, the police has registered a case this afternoon. Mr Lubhaya has condemned the incident. He alleged that local leaders of the BJP and the SAD had given statements in the media for damaging the foundation stones recently laid by Congress leaders for various development projects. He said it was the right of any of the political leader to lay foundation stone of development work in his area. He said with the construction of the causeway, residents of 35 villages would be benefited. |
Suvidha under one roof Nawanshahr, January 4 Besides, satellite Suvidha Centres have been set up recently at the villages of Kathgarh and Rahon. People of remote Kandi and Bet areas in the district can get various services under one roof at these centres. For NRIs, it has been proving a boon. It has become easy for them to get the copy of the ‘farad’ or register the marriage. Certain NRIs visiting the centre say they get facilities on a par with foreign countries on their motherland. At present, around 15-20 marriages are registered daily, says Mr Krishan Kumar. For the convenience of the people, especially those form rural areas, a scheme “Patwari at your call” has been introduced in the district. |
Gang busted; arms seized Phagwara, January 4 Dr Gill said today that the police arrested three occupants of the car and seized arms, ammunition and cash from them. The car was intercepted near the Saprod village bus stand on the Phagwara-Jalandhar national highway. The arms include a .32 revolver, one .22 pistol and 22 cartridges, besides a cash of Rs 1.5 lakh from their possession. The accused were identified as Harjit Singh, a resident of Ludhiana, Jagdeep Singh, a resident of Nushehra Pannuan in Tarn Taran district, and Surjeet Singh, a dismissed cop of the Punjab police and resident of Aulike village in Bathinda district. |
