Global market for farmers in Sonepat soon: Pawar
Karnal, April 21 Mr Pawar said this market would provide a opportunity to farmers of Punjab, Haryana and adjoining areas of Uttar Pradesh to export their produce. Such type of international markets would be set up at different places of the country, he said adding, farmers had the right to get maximum price of their crops by exporting it like Tatas and Birlas, who exported their products to get higher rates. Urging the farmers of this region to break the cycle of paddy and wheat, he encouraged them to adopt diversification of crops which would not give them better returns and save their land from getting barren as water level was decreasing due to the sowing of paddy. Mr Pawar said the farmers of Punjab and Haryana would be given 60 per cent subsidy on the expenditure of sowing crops other than wheat and paddy. Expressing concern over suicides of farmers in different parts of the country, he said the main cause of the suicides was their inability to repay loans taken from private moneylenders. Mr Pawar said that he had taken a decision under which the farmers would be given agriculture loan below Rs 3 lakh only at seven per cent rate of interest so that they required not to get loan from private moneylenders. Earlier the rate of interest on such loan was 12 per cent, he said adding, he would try to further decrease the rate of interest. Earlier general secretary of the Nationalist Kisan Congress and former Deputy Speaker of Haryana Assembly Choudhury Ved Pal demanded Rs 100 bonus per quintal on wheat. In a memorandum submitted to Mr Pawar, the representatives of several cultural and social organisations demanded directions to the NDRI authorities to provide its auditorium on reasonable rent for cultural activities. NIFAA president Pritpal Singh Pannu said that present director of the NDRI was charging Rs 85,000 as rent for a function. |
Security tightened at
Ambala Cantt railway station
Ambala, April 21 Superintendent of Police (Railways) Suman Manjari said security had been beefed up at the railway station. She said besides police personnel in uniform, more than 50 of them had been deployed in plainclothes at the railway station. “We are also trying to ascertain the authenticity of the threatening letter. The possibility of somebody playing a prank cannot be ruled out at this stage. But we are not taking any chances and adequate security arrangement has been made,” she said. She said every movement was being closely monitored and efforts were being made to ensure that no untoward incident takes place. The authenticity of the letter is being questioned due to three words which seem to have been written in Urdu. The words have been written in a shaky hand at the end of the letter. Experts opine that the words neither make sense in Urdu nor in Farsi. They point out that the words have been written in a manner to make it look like Urdu to a person who is not familiar with the language. |
