Jalandhar, March 12
In its effort to provide the people of Punjab with better residential facilities, the Punjab government is envisaging construction of residential flats in different cities for people of diverse income groups.
The proposed flats would be constructed by Improvement Trusts and PUDA.

This was stated by the Punjab Local Bodies Minister, Chaudhary Jagjit Singh, while addressing a gathering at Guru Ravidass Nagar, where the local Improvement Trust is coming out with ‘Sri Ram Vatika Development Scheme”. Under this scheme, “super-luxurious apartments” would be constructed by the trust.

Throwing light on different residential schemes initiated by the trust, Mr Tejinder Bittu, Chairman, Improvement Trust, said the proposed “Ram Vatika Scheme” was the first scheme of Punjab wherein international-quality flats were being provided by a government agency.

“Under the scheme, 40 flats would be offered to the people by way of a draw that is to be organised on April 6,” said Mr Bittu. Chaudhary Jagjit Singh also inaugurated the Rajiv Gandhi Gate, set up by the trust at the entry point of its Surya Enclave.

Nature never ceases to hold its attraction. And flowers are the best bet when it comes to taking a break from the monotony of the daily grind. With their fragrance wafting across and their colours bursting delightfully upon the eye, the flowers seldom cease to have a universal appeal. This was the observation of visitors to the Annual Garden and Flower Show organised today at Jawahar Garden, Jalandhar Cantt, by the Sub-Area and Cantonment Board under the aegis of the Vajra Corps.

If there were potted foliage plants like ferns, coleus, crotons and palms displaying their majestic lushness, also on display were daintily beautiful potted flowers like asters and carnation.

A brilliant bonsai show (small is stylish) was also organised on the occasion. The gardeners who bagged prizes during the programme included Rajinder Kumar, Kamlesh, Nand Lal, Ram Parshad and Kamlesh Kumar.

Yet another attraction for the visitors was a poster-making contest and a quiz competition (anchored by Mr Sandeep Chahal, lecturer, Doaba College) on the subject of ecology. An NGO — Citizens’ Welfare and Protection Council — had organised these contests.

The show was inaugurated by Lieutenant-General Mandhata Singh, GOC, Vajra Corps.
