Spectacular show by Army jawans
Jalandhar, March 2 A team of 24 jawans from Bangalore-based ‘Tornadoes’ showed perfect coordination as they moved together forming human pyramids on 11 motorcycles. Motorcyclists jumped through a ring of fire. They even passed through a wall built out of tube lights, crushing it to pieces. The jawans mesmerised spectators while presenting the unique “Tornado” show during which a motorcyclist jumped over eight to ten men lying on the ground. Other events of the day were an aero-model show, a dog show, a folk dance by troops from the regiment. There were interesting games for women and children as well, besides an entertainment programme by a local troupe. A large number of senior and retired officers and jawans of the regiment witnessed the show and the courage of the “Tornadoes”. Naik Subedar Elantrhiran, leading the group, said that the jawans would now go to Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh and then to Jaipur for holding a similar show. |
Effigies of George Bush burnt in city
Jalandhar, March 2 The PSU members also organised protests at Patiala, Nabha, Bassi Pathana, Malerkotla, Sunam, Barnala, Ferozepore, Nawanshahr, and Ludhiana. Hundreds of farmers, youths, and women belonging to different leftist organisations converged at the Desh Bhagat Yaadgaar Hall from where they took out a procession, which passed through various roads and streets of the city. Protesters were shouting slogans, “Bush
Murdabad,” and “Amriki Saamraj Murdabad.” The procession culminated in front of the Company Bagh where the protesters burnt effigies of Mr Bush. Addressing the protesters at the Desh Bhagat Yaadgaar Hall, Mr Sardara Singh Mahal, State President of the CPI (ML-New Democracy), alleged that Mr Bush was responsible for waging an open war against people of the world in the name of fighting terrorism and on the pretext of the 9/11 incident. Another senior leftist leader, Mr Kulwinder Singh
Warraich, said the policies inspired by the capitalists of the world were affecting people of India adversely. Mr Tarsem Peter, State President of the Pendu Mazdoor Union, said the only way out of the situation was to initiate a people’s movement against repressive and capitalist forces. Students belonging to the PSU also burnt effigies of the US President. Mr Raminder Singh Patiala, State President of the PSU, mocked that instead of avoiding the US President’s visit, Indian leaders were giving him a red carpet welcome. |

Bank dacoity: Car hired from Phagwara
Jalandhar, March 2 After committing the crime, the dacoits had fled from the spot in a Maruti car. According to the police, the car was found abandoned near the Zinda railway crossing yesterday. But further police investigations have revealed that though the Maruti car (No PB-04-2508) was registered in the name of one Amarjit Singh, a resident of Green Avenue locality of Faridkot city, it was being plied as a taxi by one Ranjit, a resident of Bhagatpural locality of Phagwara, for about 10-11 years. The police said Ranjit Kumar had been missing from evening of February 19 after his taxi was hired by some youngsters, and his family had even got an FIR registered about this on February 25. This background has made the police suspect that Ranjit could have been abducted by the robbers with an objective to using his vehicle in the crime later on. Police sources said they were working on this theory and might get some leads. The police is also preparing computer sketches of the robbers. |
