Sukhi not part of 1992 shootout: SSP
Phagwara, February 25 Replying to a question, the SSP said that though six terrorists were found involved in the attack on “Bharat Ekta Yatra”, all the accused reportedly died in various incidents. But Mr Ahir added that though the case was closed in 1993, the police would not hesitate to reopen it if it was found that any of the accused was still alive. The SSP, in the presence of ASP, Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill, while replying to another question about the open sale of restricted medicines, increasing drug addiction among youth and rising incidents of foeticide of newly-born babies with the alleged connivance of some nursing homes and midwives, Mr Ahir urged the social organisations to come forward and join hands with the police to eradicate these social evils. He said the police would also launch a campaign to check cases of foeticide, and monitor the illegal sale of intoxicants. The SSP was addressing a press conference here, before flagging off a newly-introduced PCR Mobile Gypsy. The new PCR Gypsy mobile team headed by one ASI, would be on duty 24 hours a day, the SSP said. The PCR Gypsy was equipped with ultra-modern equipments, including speaker and five kinds of hooters, he added. Later, Mr Ahir presided over a seminar on “Foetal Killings” and “Drug Addiction” organised by the Punjab Police, Kapurthala, and Community Polytechnic, Palahi, in Palahi village. |
Will state’s potato farmers get compensation?
Jalandhar, February 25 Mr Bajwa, in a written statement issued here today, claimed that the Union Minister told the Lok Sabha that the damage to the potato crops was not a natural calamity and that there was no proposal by the Punjab government and the Central government for granting any compensation to farmers whose crop had suffered damage due to frostbite. Accusing the Punjab government of adopting an indifferent attitude towards farmers, the Rajya Sabha MP alleged the state government should have raised the matter vehemently with the Centre. And since the state government had not done this, it had got “exposed”, he alleged. |
