High-level meeting on plans for Mohali
District status also to be discussed
Mohali, February 25
The Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, has called a high-powered meeting on February 27 to discuss development plans for Mohali, including granting of district status to Mohali. Sources said a preliminary meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary and attended by senior officers of the three districts on parts proposed to be included in Mohali district, was held on February 23.

The Chandigarh Administration is working out the details of comprehensive tour packages covering religious destinations all over the region. Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir are home to dozens of shrines of immense devotional value to different religions.

  School for slum kids inaugurated
Chandigarh, February 25
For a school, it’s plush. A sprawling building spread over four acres, a 20-metre long swimming pool, 70 bathrooms, Saint Gobain glass and granite flooring. An initiative of industrialist Dr Gurpreet Singh, chairman of Continental Devices India, former head, National Open School and Board Member of Doon School, ‘Sikhya: The School of Learning’, at Sector 46, the first elite school for slum children in the city was inaugurated today.


Contests, folk dances regale visitors at Rose Festival
Chandigarh, February 25
The ‘Rose Prince’ and ‘Rose Princess’ contests occupied centrestage at the ongoing annual Rose Festival at the Rose Garden here today. At least 450 children lined up for the contest which began around 9.30 a.m. The contests continued till late in the afternoon.
