2 held for YC leader’s murder
Jhajjar, February 25 The SHO, City Police Station, Mr M.S. Rana, said today that a woman sarpanch of Mandothi village, Bimla, and her husband Bale had been arrested while raids were being conducted at possible hideouts to arrest the remaining accused. The other accused were Raju, Narender, Kuldeep, Gurdeep, Ramal, Bhanu and Tillee, all from Mandothi village, he added. Sources said three supporters of sarpanch, Bimla were shot dead by the opposite faction during polling on April 3, last year. This group was now striking at the enemy group and had so far killed three persons in a month’s time. |
ITI students protest against privatisation
Sonepat, February 25 According to a report, the students also shouted slogans against the state government and dispersed peacefully after a few hours. The angry students warned that they would not allow the state government to privatise the institute at all costs and would intensify the agitation if the state government would go ahead with the move on this issue. They also alleged that no poor student would be able to get admission in the institute if it was handed over to the private sector. |

Hooda hails rail Budget
Chandigarh, February 25 In a statement issued here today, Mr Hooda said these projects included the laying of the Rewari-Jhajjar-Rohtak railway line, survey for the Lohuru-Bhiwani railway line and the dedicated multi-model high axle load freight corridor. The budget had not put any burden on the common man and had ambitious plans for the expansion of the railway network in the country. The Budget was in consonance with the policies and programmes initiated under the guidance of the UPA Chairperson, Mrs Sonia Gandhi. |
Self-help groups get expert advice
Hisar, February 25 The ambitious project, aimed at enhancing the income of poor families, is being run by the Haryana Government with financial support from the Japanese Bank on International Cooperation (JBIC) and will continue till 2010-11. Groups of local residents belonging to the low-income category are formed, following which they are trained on inter-loaning and development of entrepreneurial skills. They are also provided loans at nominal rates of interest for starting some enterprise of their own. The workshop was organised by the Publicity and Extension wing of the state Forest Department's Hisar range, which falls under Ambala division. Experts on various subjects from Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) here informed the participants about various aspects of running small and cottage industry units. They were given important tips on bee-keeping, mushroom production and preparing vermi-compost manure, candles, pickles and matchboxes etc. The participants were also given free literature. Earlier, Mr Jagdish Chander, Divisional Forest Officer, Hisar, inaugurated the workshop. An exhibition of soft-toys and other handicrafts made by members of various self-help groups was also put up on the occasion. |

Bhiwani, February 25 Speaking on the topic, "Historical Past:Interrogating the Buddhist Identity", Dr Aloney from Department of Fine Arts, Kurukshetra University, spoke about the notion of homogeneity of the India tradition. Mr Anwar Alam, Department of History of Delhi University, spoke on "Interpreting Islam and Majlis: A commentary on the thought and action of Shaikh Ahmad Khatlu”. He stated that there is no concept of "us" and "them" in any Indian religion. The Quran is totally against the notion of identity. All religions were equal and every religion inspired man to accept the message of God and to fight the evil. Dr M.K.Bhatnagar, Head of English Department in MD University, Rohtak, said "other" was as important as "self". It was based on one’s dislikings and likings . Dr Sanjay Kumar of the English Department in Ch. Devi Lal University, Sirsa, presented the topic : Redefining the past in the present: A comparative study of Jaishree Misra’s "Ancient Promises" and Manju Kapoor’s "A Married Woman”. Dr Pushp Lata, Assistant Professor, BITS, Pilani, Mr Pushpesh Kumar of Delhi University, Mr Praghyan Chaudhary, History Department, Digambar Jain College, Baraut, Prof Sudhakar Singh were among others who presented their papers. Principal of the Apeejay Saraswati PG College for Girls Gita Sharma welcomed the dignitaries. |
Jindal Trust raises scholarship
Hisar, February 25 Mr R.P. Jindal, Executive Director, Jindal Stainless, said here today the students scoring 80 per cent and above marks in PUC or graduation classes would be given 50 per cent higher scholarship with effect from April 1, 2006. Mr Jindal maintained that the minimum marks to get scholarship were 50 per cent in case of boys and 45 per cent
for girls. The trust also offered donation to the charitable institutions engaged in the service to the poor and the disabled and those running schools

Publisher apologises for outdated book Chandigarh, February 25 The book, supplied this year, had outdated information on various personalities of the country and the state. It described Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Mr Om Prakash Chautala as the Prime Minister and Chief Minister of Haryana, respectively. In a letter to Mr Khandelwal, Mr Jindal said the book was published by a sister concern, Children Book Temple, Ambala cantonment, in 2002-03. He admitted that inadvertently the year of publication was not printed on the book, which was, however, approved by the Department for School Libraries on October 16, 2003. |

Cops: remove tinted glasses from vehicles
Chandigarh, February 25 An official spokesman said here today that it had been observed that the instructions issued earlier for the removal of permission stickers issued for using tinted glasses or black film by the Haryana Police were not being followed meticulously. He asked the users to remove the permission stickers from their vehicles and deposit these with the Police Headquarters, Sector 6, Panchkula, in view of the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Such stickers, he said, were now invalid and the users were liable to be challaned in future, he added. |
Construction of subway sought
Ambala, February 25 The chairman of the association, Mr Chaman Singh, and the secretary, Mr Rajbir Saini, said in the letter that the over bridge on the railway track had becomes so narrow that it could not bear the load of the Ambala Hisar road traffic. The over bridge was the only passage for the lawyers and public to approach the courts and other district offices. They said the Ambala treasury road which was directly approaching the judicial complex, would be the best alternative passage. They said the Railway Department had already approved this project but the state government had to provide finance for its construction. |
GATI centre inaugurated
Ambala, February 25 Mr Suresh Newatia, head retail and business development, GATI inaugurated the express distribution centre near Kuldeep Nagar in Ambala cantonment. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Newatia said that the centre has been opened with an initial investment of Rs one crore. He said that the centre is a combination of Express centre, Transit centre and mechantronic warehouse. He said that there is racking and security systems, modern material handling equipment and warehouse management system. Mr Newatia said that the Express Distribution Centre will be useful for Northern region including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana and parts of Uttaranchal. He said that GATI is targetting a turnover of Rs 1000 crore by the year 2009. He said that GATI has expanded its activities globally and it has today branches in China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and SAARC countries. “In India, we have a presence 594 districts. Nineteen Express Distribution Centres are going to be built all over India,” he said. |
Ambala, February 25 Boiled eggs were distributed at Manav Chowk, Jagadhari Gate, Subzi Mandi and Baldev Nagar. Mr Jaspreet of SP Farm said they were distributing boiled eggs free of cost so that people did not hesitate in eating poultry products. “We are ourselves eating eggs and giving demonstration that there is no problem,” he said.
