NRI girl kidnapped a day before marriage
Mandi Ahmedgarh, February 15
The Dehlon police has registered an FIR under Sections 366, 452, 148 and 149 of the IPC and Arms Act against at least seven persons for allegedly kidnapping an NRI girl of Narangwal village. The persons allegedly forcibly entered the house of the girl while the ‘‘ladies sangeet’’ ceremony was in progress. The girl’s marriage was scheduled to be solemnised today.

CPM protest against rising unemployment

Activists of the CPM today staged a demonstration and courted arrest against the rising unemployment and communalisation of politics in the state. The activists took out a procession starting from Chatter Singh Park to the Mini-Secretariat where they courted arrest.

VC releases book dedicated to scientists

Vice-Chancellor, K.S. Aulakh yesterday released “Gyan-Vigyan — Jyot”, a book in Punjabi. It is a collection of essays by a cross-section of scientists and technologists presented at a training workshop on “Effective use of mass media for dissemination of science and technology”, conducted jointly by the Directorate of Extension and Punjab State Council for Science and Technology here in December — January 2005.

Cultural show by PAU society

The Society for the Advancement of Academics, Sports and Cultural Activities of the College of Basic Sciences and Humanities, Punjab Agricultural University, organised a cultural programme Jash-e-Baharan in the Pal auditorium of the university recently. Rabies vaccination camp
Samrala, February 15
Mr Jagmohan Singh Kang, Minister for Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Development, today while addressing a press conference at Civil Veterinary hospital during a anti-rabies vaccination and awareness camp, here said that he took a serious view of the sub-standard manufacture of food for dairy animals. He said that the dairy department had registered 200 cases against the manufacturers.
