Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, February, 11
The enthusiasm of students and participants reached its peak on the second day of Ectopia-2006 at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) here, when renowned Punjabi singer Sarabjeet Cheema marked his presence as the guest of honour at the three-day cultural bonanza.

Cheema regaled the faculty members and students with his hit songs, 'Rang Ra Ra Riri Raara', 'Chandigarh Shehar Di Kudi', 'Rangla Punjab' and many others. As soon as the acclaimed singer came on the stage, he wasted no time to weave his magic over the students, who had been waiting patiently for his performance.

Beginning with a song against the pernicious menace of female foeticide "na maari, na maari", he made an all-out effort to reach out to the audience followed by other foot-tapping Punjabi songs to keep the atmosphere charged.

The day began with debate, faculty antakshri, mono-acting and T-Shirt slogan competitions. Fashion exhibition opens at JD Institute
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, February 11
The JD Institute of Fashion Technology (JDIFT) organised a two-day designer exhibition “Oorja” which opened at the JD campus here today. The event was inaugurated by Ms Neelam Dawar, senior vice-president, Mahila Congress. The exhibition is a culmination of efforts of fashion design, interior design, textile and jewellery design departments of the institute.

The students of interior design created an ambience of convenience and comfort with the use of available resources. A low-seating bed with a rich zardosi bedspread, matching cushions and complementing side tables created just the right atmosphere for a cosy living room. Since interior designing imbibes interior decoration in itself, mud-painting, mural art and table stands completed the look.

The textile design department presented an array of eloquent bed sheets, bed covers, cushion covers, tablemats etc making use of varied techniques like spray painting, block printing, batik, tie-n-dye and fabric painting.

In jewellery design, about 150 sets are on display. Students have made use of unusual beads, pearls, sarwoski crystals and even m-seal to make a captivating pendant. Also on display are hoops, danglers, bracelets, anklets, earrings and designer pieces which are a part of the exclusive design collection.

Director of the institute Pragati Taneja said, “Students have worked very dedicatedly and religiously for the exhibition. They have taken consumer profile, future trends and client preferences into consideration and then created these designer pieces. Such activities are done regularly to boost the morale of the students to give them a better insight into what the market demands from them. Over the years, our students have constantly been absorbed by big names like Eurostar International Gold, Denis Parker, Lacoste, Raghuvendra Rathore, Rocky S etc. thanks to the support from the industry”.
