Police gets clues in drugging case

The police today claimed to have got some “vital clues” about Sylvie, maid servant who allegedly drugged her employer and his wife and decamped with jewellery and other valuables from a Sector 22 house during Monday night.

Fog envelops city
Chandigarh, January 18
The city spent the night wrapped in a thick blanket of fog leading to poor visibility and taking city residents by surprise. A cloudy day gave way to fog in the evening even as the temperatures rose further. While the maximum temperature went up to 22°C, 12.4° was the minimum temperature recorded in the city today.

‘Phone tapping’ by police: lawyer questioned

The Crime Branch of the Chandigarh Police today quizzed Mr Arvind Thakur, General Secretary, Lawyers for Human Rights International, in connection with the phone-tapping controversy in which the local police was alleged to have tapped the telephones of six persons including two judicial officers.

40 hoardings removed
Chandigarh, January 18
The Municipal Corporation today launched a drive to remove the illegal advertisement hoardings in Sector 22-D and Sector 36. Glow signs and hoardings of showrooms and institutes more than two feet in size were removed by MC officials.

11 held for rioting
Chandigarh, January 18
The police arrested 11 persons on the charges of rioting and causing injuries following a clash between two families in Mauli Jagran here. Three of the injured belonging to a family were admitted to Sector 16 General Hospital.

One booked for selling leased booth
Chandigarh, January 18
The local police yesterday booked a resident of Bapu Dham Colony in a cheating case for allegedly selling a booth allotted to him on lease. In another incident a resident of Sector 56 was held for allegedly possessing 120 bottles of liquor.

Youth dupes shopkeeper
Mohali, January 18
A shopkeeper of Phase VII here has complained to the police that he was cheated by a youth who took away goods from his shop without making any payment.

Amritsar), Mr Ashish Kapoor (DSP Civil Lines, Amritsar), and Dr. Arun Kumar Sharma, SMO (4 th IRB, Jalandhar) won the V1th All India Police Officers Lawn Tennis Championship held at Pondicherry from January 8 to 12.
