Guidance week
: The divisional employment office here has organised a professional guidance week, which will continue till January 20. The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Arun Kumar Gupta, said officials of governments departments would inform unemployed youth about various self-employment schemes during the week. School and college students would be provided information on admission to higher education institutions.

8 hurt in clash: Eight persons were injured, four of them seriously, in a clash between two groups at Basra village in the district. The injured persons were rushed to the local Civil Hospital. The condition of Prem, Zile Singh, Kamal and Raja is stated to be critical.

SONEPAT
Desilting of canal:
The Haryana Irrigation Department has spent more than Rs 5 lakh on desilting and deweeding of the 35-km-long Juan canal system which passes through Sonepat district and ends at Hassangarh village, near Bahadurgarh, in Jhajjar district. Mr M.K. Lamba, Superintending Engineer, YWS, told mediapersons here on Wednesday that the work was aimed at ensuring the supply of canal water at the tail-end villages.

Income tax raid: Officials of the Income Tax Department conducted a raid on a wholesale shop, Gulab Reori and Gajjak of Rohtak on the G.T. Road near Murthal Chowk, 8 km from here, on Wednesday and found the shop locked from outside. According to a report, the officials had to return disappointed when other shopkeepers told them that the shop had remained closed since January 7 and the owner had removed all the eatable goods from it.

Telephone adalat: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is organising a telephone adalat on February 3 in the office of the District General Manager at Sonepat. According to a report, Mr T.R. Chauhan, District General Manager of BSNL, will hear the complaints of the subscribers and remove them on the spot.

1 killed in accident: One person was killed and two others were injured when a three-wheeler on which they were travelling was hit by a maxi-cab on the G.T. Road near Teha village, 18 km from here, on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Devi Singh of Hathwala village in Panipat district, wereas the injured were identified as Umesh of Hathwala and Ashu of Khandarwali village in U.P.

Physiotherapy unit
: The Deputy Commissioner and president, Mandi District Red Cross Society, Mr Subhashish Panda, on Tuesday said the society would set up a Rs 5 lakh physiotherapy unit at Red Cross Bhavan in two months. He said this after inaugurating the new round-the-clock, X-ray unit of the Bhavan near the Zonal Hospital here on Tuesday.
