PHL matches resume today
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, January 18
The third leg of Tier I of Premier Hockey League matches will start tomorrow after the three-day rest. Bangalore Lions will take on Maratha Warriors at 7 pm at the Sector 42 hockey stadium here.

All captains of the Tier I teams today apprised mediapersons of their weaknesses as well as forte. They also revealed their strategies for the forthcoming matches.

Skipper of Chandigarh Dynamos Rajpal Singh was the happiest one as his team has been performing par excellence in the league. The team has won all matches and topped the tally with 9 points.

“Performing up to the mark in front of home crowd is a satisfying experience. We will follow the same offensive strategy in the forthcoming matches and try to win the top honours,” he said.

Viren Rasquinha, skipper of Maratha Warriors also seemed satisfied with his team’s performance. “We are playing well and enjoying the game. The Pakistan import Adnan Zakir and Imran Warsi are doing well along with the local players,” said Viren, who reserved his comments on the level of umpiring.

However, he was full of praise for the local spectators, which are turning up in the large number to boost the morale of the teams.

At the moment, Maratha Warriors are at the second slot with 6 points and will take on Bangalore Lions tomorrow.

On the other hand, Gagan Ajit Singh seemed poignant as his team, Sher-e-Jalandhar, the last year runners-up, could not live up to the expectations this time.

“I am not happy with even my own performance,” he said. The team is limping at fourth place with three points.

Dilip Tirkey and Arjun Halappa, captains of Hyderabad Sultans and Bangalore Lions, wanted their players to give their hundred per cent to remain in the game. Tirkey also favoured the idea of conducting the Junior PHL.

With four points, Bangalore Lions are at the third position, while Hyderabad Sultans are at the bottom of the tally.
