LPG distributors defer strike

Murder accused arrested after two years

Chandigarh, November 25
It was a cap that led to the identification of the accused in a blind murder case. This eventually resulted in the arrest of the two accused nearly 24 months after the incident. The third accused in this case is still at large.

The cap gave the murder accused away
Chandigarh, November 25
It took Chandigarh Police over two years to trace a murder accused. Though an eyewitness had told the police that an assailant in contractor Gunwant Singh Walia case was wearing a Dev Anand style cap, it took the cops almost 24 months to reportedly establish his identity, despite the fact that he was “known” to wear that cap.

IAF to train Lankans on combat aircraft
Chandigarh, November 25
For the first time, the Sri Lankan Air Force has sent its men to undergo training in India on combat aircraft. A six-member team from the island nation is currently at the MiG--27/29 TETTRA School at the Air Force High Grounds here for the purpose.

Indian Air Force to cut costs, manpower, says A.K. Singh 
Chandigarh, November 25
The IAF is changing its maintenance procedures to cut down on costs and manpower. Stating this here today, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief Western Air Command, Air Marshal A.K. Singh, said that a three-month study conducted by the WAC resulted in saving 296 man-hours and Rs 63,000 in diesel expenditure.

Rodrigues lays stone of vocational training centre

With a view to empowering the physically and mentally challenged persons and to ensure their rehabilitation as productive members of society, Gen S.F. Rodrigues (retd), Governor of Punjab and the UT Administrator, laid the foundation stone of a Vocational Training-cum-Production Marketing Centre, in Sector 46, here today.

Gandotra denies allegations

Reacting to a legal notice by the Chandigarh Club for his reported allegations of irregularities against the club management, a suspended member of the executive committee, Capt Sanjeev Gandotra (retd), today claimed that it was never his intention to “damage the reputation of the club”.

Delimitation panel extends date for objections

Suicide by woman: husband, in-laws booked

The police today booked the husband of Sunita, who allegedly committed suicide at her Sector 29 residence on Thursday, and her in-laws on the charge of dowry death.

Two vehicle thefts in city

Mr Harpinder Singh of Phase X, Mohali, has lodged a complaint with the police that his Maruti car (DL-6-CA-4627) was stolen from the parking lot of the Sector 22 veterinary hospital on Thursday.

Chandigarh Carnival begins today

e Leisure Valley has been decked up to welcome participants in the forthcoming Chandigarh Carnival on November 26 and 27. The event will be inaugurated by Gen S.F. Rodrigues, (retd), Governor of Punjab and UT Administrator, leading to a weekend full of festivity. The annual carnival is back with a difference with an entirely new concept and added attractions. It will have a Film City Pavilion to familiarise people with media and entertainment industry. In this pavilion, information about the complete process of film making and production of radio and television programmes will be disseminated to the people.
