Unauthorised use of red light atop govt vehicles
Our Correspondent

Jhajjar, September 13
A number of government officers posted here seems to have an irresistible fascination for the red light atop their vehicles even if it meant to give the government rules a go by.

The administrative officials, including the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDM), Executive Engineer of Public Works Department (B&R), District Revenue Officer (DRO), City Magistrate, District Development and Panchayat Officer (DDPO), and even the political appointees like chairperson and vice-chairperson of the Zila Parisad and president of the Municipal Committee have the red lights on their vehicles in violation of the state government’s notification in this regard.

All these officers are not entitled to use the red light. According to the state government’s notification, only the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and the Superintendent of Police (SP) can install the red light on their vehicles. However, most of them could not resist the temptation of red light on their vehicles, which symbolises power and special status.

However, some officials who are not entitled but still use the red light on their personal or official vehicles, include the Executive Engineer, PWD (B&R), Mr D.V.S. Dahiya, on his Tata Sumo (HR 63- 6090), the DRO, Mr K.K. Sharma, on his car (HR 63- 4000), the DDPO, Mr Ajay Mishra, on his Marshal jeep (HR 14 A-700), the City Magistrate, Mr Surjeet Nain, on his car (HR 14 A- 600), the vice-chairman of the Zila Parisad, Mr Krishan Ahlawat, on his car (HR 13 A- 6977).

The official vehicles of the ADC, Mr Vikas Gupta, (HR 14 B-9699), the SDM, Mr Mahender Yadav, (HR 14 B-1111), and the chairperson of the Zila Parisad, Mrs Bimla Dhankar, (HR 51 S-0094) have the red lights, while as per the notification they can use only a blue light. The police spokesperson said he had no information of the unauthorised use of the red light on any vehicle. He said though the traffic police could challan such vehicles, no such challans had been reported recently.
