CBI team visits Balmiki Colony
Gohana (Sonepat), September 10 The team, led by SP Mr Geelani and comprising two DSPs among others, visited the colony here today afternoon. However, the members of the team did not talk to
mediapersons. The district police handed over the CBI files of the cases related to Baljeet’s murder and attack on Balmiki Colony, it is learnt. The team reached Gohana Rest House earlier in the day and reportedly got initial information from the district civil and police officials of both incidents. Earlier, the CBI had intimated the state government that it had deputed two teams to probe the Gohana incidents and the Panchkula rioting during the Haryana bandh on September 2. The team based at Gohana is also likely to probe the complicity of district officials into the incident as announced by Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on September 5. The Haryana Police has already arrested four of the 23 accused persons in the arson case and is on the lookout for the remaining 19. In the Baljit Siwach murder case, which triggered the arson incident, four of the seven named and several others unknown accused have been arrested. They included Radhey Sham of Lath village, now residing in Vishnu Nagar of Gohana town, Manoj of Bhainswan Khurd village, Rampal of Nooran Khera village and Rajesh of Chhatehra village in attack on Balmiki Colony and Shiv Lal, alias Kaka, Veeru, alias Jatinder, Chhota, alias Hari Dass, and Rakesh, alias Kakoo, in Baljeet’s murder case. The state government had already suspended three police officers, the then Gohana DSP, Raunki Ram, and the SHO of Gohana, Mr Sat Pal, for alleged dereliction of duty. Meanwhile, the residents of Balmiki Colony demanded that interim relief should also be given to those persons whose houses had been looted. Talking to The Tribune here yesterday, former municipal councillor Mr Raj Kumar, whose house was also burnt during the attack on the colony, said the irate mob had looted the houses of at least those 10 persons the marriages of whose children was scheduled to be held within next few days. At least they should also be given interim relief, he added. The former councillor also demanded that those houses should also be rebuilt instead of their renovation where cracks had developed due to explosion in LPG cylinder during attack on the colony. He said he had already brought the matter to the notice of Rohtak Commissioner NC Wadhawa during his visit to the colony a few days ago. In the meanwhile, Gohana SDM Ajit Balaji Joshi told The Tribune that all damaged houses would be rebuilt within a fortnight as the work of rebuilding and renovation of these houses was going on at a full pace. |
Samiti cancels Dalit mahapanchayat plan
Chandigarh, September 10 Talking to newsmen here Mr Ravan said the Gohana Dalits had written to him that they were satisfied with the relief measures taken by the Hooda government and now they had no complaint against the government. Hence, they urged him to cancel the mahapanchayat. He said after this there was no rationale behind holding the mahapanchayat. The Dalit leader, however, opposed the CBI inquiry into the violence that took place in Panchkula on September 2 during a statewide bandh called by the Dalits to protest against the Gohana arson in which about 50 houses were burnt by a mob. Making a plea for the cancellation of the CBI inquiry, Mr Ravan said minor incidents of violence were a routine during a bandh but never had a CBI inquiry been ordered into such incidents. He said while he had no objection to the CBI inquiry into the murder of a Jat youth, Baljit Siwach, in Gohana and the subsequent arson there because the guilty must be punished, irrespective of his caste affiliation, “we strongly object to a similar inquiry into the Panchkula incidents.” He said his organisation would give memorandums to the state government and the National Human Rights Commission in this regard. A CBI inquiry into the Gohana incidents was first demanded by the Dalit leaders themselves. However, the government’s decision to ask the CBI to inquire into the Panchkula incidents also has caught them on the wrong foot. Mr Ravan said the failure of the Hooda government to announce the interim relief in one go had aggravated the situation. It first announced relief of Rs 5,000 per family, which was later increased to Rs 50,000 and finally to Rs 1 lakh. He said the government should have also compensated the family of the murdered youth. The Haryana Balmiki Mahasabha had announced the cancellation of the mahapanchayat but leaders of the Bharatiya Balmiki Dharam Samaj, a constituent of the samiti were adamant on holding it. |
Ultimatum not received: Hooda
Rohtak, September 10 Talking to mediapersons after his son Deepender Hooda filed his nomination papers for the Rohtak Lok Sabha seat, the Chief Minister said so far as the government was concerned the issue stood settled. A CBI probe had been ordered, an interim compensation had been paid and the full quantum of compensation was being assessed. The law would take its own course after the CBI probe was completed. |

HUDA to cut timeframe for house construction Panchkula, September 10 There is also a proposal to not to give further extension to thousands of plot holders in the state who have failed to construct houses on their plots, when the extension period allowed to them ends on December 31. This decision is likely to affect thousands of plot allottees, especially in the high potential (in terms of real estate prices) zones of Panchkula, Gurgaon and Faridabad. While HUDA has taken a decision in principle to reduce the extension period, the final nod will be given by the Chairman of HUDA, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. The meeting of HUDA is scheduled to be held soon and the two proposals will be taken up in the meeting. Initially, two years are given to plot holders for construction of houses. If the allottee fails to begin construction within this time period, he has to pay an extension fee for not constructing a building on the plot. Senior officials in HUDA inform that the decision to not allow further extension to plot holders and reduce the extension period will counter the artificial escalating of land prices. “In Panchkula, Gurgaon and Faridabad and in urban estates of Ambala, Karnal and Panipat — all falling along the GT Road, the real estate prices have been rising steadily. This is mainly because property dealers and private financiers are buying property for speculation purpose. As a result, there is no development and scores of plots are lying vacant, but property prices continue to rise. By reducing the extension period for construction we will be able to ensure development of our sectors and also curtail the artificially created hike in property prices,” informs a senior official in HUDA. |
Hooda’s son files papers
Rohtak, September 10 Asked if his nomination as the Congress candidate was yet another instance of political families practising dynastic politics, he said in a democracy elections were contested on party platforms and individuals played only a limited role. All party nominees, whether from political families or newcomers, belong to the Congress family. Therefore, if this is a case of dynastic politics, then it is certainly the Congress family which has been promoted. He said his inexperience was not a handicap since one always had to make a beginning at some point in one’s life and as time passes one learns along the way and gains experience for a bigger role in the chosen field. To a question, he said he had no plans to go back to the USA, whether or not he was elected to the Lok Sabha. “I intend to stay put in Rohtak and continue to serve my people, whichever way I can,” he said. He said he would be objective in his assessment of his father’s government.
