Case against INLD leader: IG awaits expert opinion
Tribune News Service

Pehowa (Kurukshetra), July 30
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Ambala range, Mr S.S. Deswal, has completed an inquiry into the attempt to murder case registered against former Agriculture Minister and INLD leader Jaswinder Singh Sandhu, his son and sarpanch of Gumthala Garhi village Gaganjeet Singh and four others.

Talking to The Tribune on phone, Mr Deswal said he had already recorded the statements of the parties concerned during his visit to Pehowa a few days ago.

Mr Deswal said he was waiting for the expert opinion regarding any firing from Mr Sandhu’s pistol or not during the clash. After getting the opinion, he would submit his report, he added.

The already confiscated Sandhu’s pistol was reportedly sent to Forensic Science Laboratory, Madhuban, for its examination to know whether any shot had been fired from it or not.

Meanwhile Mr Sandhu while talking to The Tribune claimed that no shot had been fired from the pistol for the past several months, what to talk of July 23 incident.

However block Congress Committee president Manjit Singh Waraich said he had fired three shots from the pistol on that day, and one of the bullets passed by touching his head and he received injuries due to that.

Mr Sandhu said he had been falsely implicated. Demanding the cancellation of the FIR filed against him and other INLD workers, he said that the Congressmen, including Mr Waraich, should be booked for assaulting INLD workers. The congressmen not only attacked him but also threatened to eliminate him, he added.

Terming Mr Sandhu’s statement as a bundle of lies, Mr Waraich said the former minister had tried to kill him and fired thrice and one of the bullets passed by touching his head. Later his cousin Jasbir Singh snatched the pistol from him, he added.

The clash took place at a plot adjoining INLD office on the Kaithal-Pehowa road on July 23.
