70 marooned on Yamuna island with 35 ft water around
Yamunanagar, July 7 The district administration claimed teams had reached the affected villages and contacts established with the trapped. Meanwhile, body of 12-year-old Prashant of Lal Chhapar village who was washed away yesterday was found from fields near the village. On the other hand there was no trace of Intzzar of Uttar Pradesh who went missing while pulling out timber from Yamuna near Tajewala Head Works yesterday. Sources in the Irrigation Department said trapped people could not cross over to the main lands on the either side as they were surrounded by 30 feet to 40 feet deep water and the river was flowing fast. Water is expected to recede further by the evening and then they would be brought to the main land. As per reports Lakar, Kanewala, Bhelpura, Malimajra and Nawajpur villages of Chhachhrouli block remained cut off from the rest of the district for the second day today. Those who are trapped on islands include Deemag Singh, Balwant, Rampal, Subhe Singh and Lakhmira of Mandoli Gujran village, Raghuvir, Shyama, Suresh, Ram Sharan, Hukma, Ramdhan of Mandoli Malaah village and over 36 members of Plage community belonging to Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, four feet deep water submerged classrooms of government middle schools of Kanlsai and Meher Majra villages this morning. Though the schools opened today but the attendance remained very thin. Sarpanch of Kanalsi village, Ms Shimla Devi and headmaster of the school, Shyam Lal today submitted an application to the Deputy Commissioner fearing that the school building might cave in. When contacted SDM, Dr Satyender Duhan claimed that relief was being sent to the affected villages and teams consisting of doctors have reached Lakar village. He said that contact has been established with those trapped on islands and people would return home by evening. HISAR: Heavy and incessant rainfall, which began last night, wreaked havoc in the district and the surrounding areas, throwing life out of gear and putting the local residents to great inconvenience. While flood-like situation prevailed in Dabra, Gaibipur, Shikarpur, Mirzapur and Raipur villages, it was no better in the city where several feet of water accumulated at many places, badly hitting vehicular traffic, besides power and telephone services. The downpour, which was followed by a continuous drizzle, belied the district administration’s claims on the arrangements made for disposal of rainwater. Meanwhile, Suman, an 11-year-old girl of Kapdo village in the district, was killed while her mother Moorti Devi was injured as the roof of their house collapsed following heavy rain last night. However, while the local residents faced multifarious difficulties due to the incessant rain and water entering their houses, the two top administrative officials of the district — Hisar Divisional Commissioner, Mr R.R.Fuliya, and the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Arun Kumar Gupta, — were busy attending a seminar on the campus of Guru Jambheshawar University (GJU) here. While Mr Gupta went to oversee the flood-control measures soon after completing his speech at the seminar, Mr Fuliya went to the local Doordarshan Kendra for an interview. Before leaving the venue, the Commissioner, who is also the acting Vice-Chancellor of the GJU, promised the organisers that he would return for the concluding session. Hisar-Delhi National Highway No 10 was damaged near Mundhal, due to which vehicular traffic was diverted via Bhiwani. |

Sources said rainwater brought the logs, which were cut and stored at several places in the hills. Since Wednesday morning, hundreds of people living close to the river are fishing out the logs.
