Agencies asked to finish work on verifying unauthorised colonies
New Delhi, June 28 PWD Minister Dr A K Walia today held a review meeting with Principal Secretary, Urban Development O P Kelkar, representatives of DDA, MCD, Environment and Forest departments. Also, officials of DJB and Deputy Commissioners of nine districts were present during the meeting. As the verification process is yet to be completed, Dr Walia asked the concerned agencies to verify the status of unauthorized colonies to enable the State government to submit a detailed report to Union Ministry of Urban Development. After the meeting, Dr Walia said that around 800 unauthorized colonies have already been verified and the rest would be verified before July 15. Earlier the concerned agencies were asked to complete the process by end of June. The Delhi Jal Board has almost completed the verification process of these colonies in order to provide infrastructure facilities and area of alignment of water and sewer lines. The Minister also asked the DDA Vice Chairman to personally supervise the verification process of colonies coming under the jurisdiction of DDA. Further, the MCD has been directed to speed up the identification of colonies as per the status shown in the aerial survey. |
Controversy over new MCD headquarters building
New Delhi, June 28 He said that the original proposed height of the building was 28 storeys, which was approved by
the department in 1990. “Now, when the construction has started, it is being opposed for reasons better known to authorities concerned,” he says. The urban development secretary has said that the height of the civic centre should be 14 storeys in conformity with other buildings. The Municipal Commissioner, however, said that this argument was baseless. The NDMC has been given permission to construct 18 storeyed buildings and a number of other buildings in Connaught Place have even more height. He also said that the Northern Railway has plans to construct 30 storeyed building at the New Delhi Railway station, but so far no objection has been raised by the Urban Development department of the Delhi Government. The Metro Rail has constructed a number of buildings, including technology park, without taking clearance from the Urban Development department but no action has been taken against the Metro Rail. As far as traffic congestion is concerned, the corporation has made traffic management plan for the area in question, he said. He further said that technically, the department cannot restrict the height of the building because in the new Master Plan, there is no restriction for the height of commercial buildings. Secondly, the Malaysia based company has rich experience in constructing high rise buildings in Colombo, Sri Lanka and other places. The civic centre will be a unique building in itself. Its total site area is 46, 702 square metre. Besides MCD headquarters, it will house commercial offices, space for cultural activities, restaurants, banquet halls etc. Parking arrangement for government and private vehicles will also be there in the civic centre premises. |
Faridabad may find place on Delhi metro map
New Delhi, June 28 The Managing Director of the DMRC, Mr E. Sreedharan, told The Tribune today that Haryana Chief
Minister B.S. Hooda had evinced keen interest in linking Faridabad to the Capital with a metro rail link. In a recent communication to the Haryana Government, the DMRC indicated the cost, amounting to Rs 75 lakh, for preparing a DPR for the Delhi-Faridabad metro link. The exact details of link will only be known after the DPR, which can take anything between six months to one year after it gets a green signal from the
Haryana Government, gets completed. Besides being a successful model that other cities want to replicate, the DMRC has been providing consultancy services at a much lower cost than countries like Germany, Britain and Japan. It is now on the verge of establishing a separate wing to expand its consultancy services and making it even more self-sufficient. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation(DMRC) Chief Public Relations Officer Anuj Dayal said the DMRC had already submitted DPRs for Bangalore and Hyderabad. In fact, the Bangalore metro plan was at an advanced stage with tenders already having been floated. The plan for a 23-km line between Kalamassery and Tripunithura in Kochi has also been submitted. Besides this, it has also submitted DPRs for Noida and Gurgaon metro links. The DMRC is also preparing plans for metros in Chenni, Kolkota, Hyderabad and Mumbai. The Noida Metro plan has a 7-km line between New Ashok Nagar and Sector-32 and the Gurgaon Metro plan two lines – one between Qutab Minar and the
Gurgaon Border, measuring 9.02 km, and another between the Gurgoan border and Sushant Lok, measuring 7.05 km. The Ghaziabad metro plan has a 12.5-km line between Dilshad Garden and Rajnagar. The 33-km Bangalore metro plan to decongest the city has an 18.1- km Corridor no.1 between East and West and a 14.9-km Corridor no.2 between North and South parts of the city. The 38.5-km Hyderabad metro plan also includes two corridors – a one covering Miyapur , Osmania Medical College and Chaitanya Puri, measuring 25.57 km, and the second covering Secunderabad , Charminar and Falaknuma, measuring 12.48 km. Munbai, which already has a very strong local rail network in place, will have a 60.8-km metro with three corridors: the Colaba Backbay, Mahim, Bandra and Charkop Corridor no.1, the Varsova, Andheri and Ghatkopar Corridor no. 2 and the Bandra , Mankhurd Corridor No.3. The Chennai metro will include partially underground and elevated stretches. Of the 31.5 km Airport–Guindy–Anna Salai–Spencers– Central Station–Broadway–Thiruvottiyur High Road line, 8.4 km is underground and the remaining length elevated. The 13.5-km Ponnamallai High Road–EVR Periyar Salai–Anna Nagar–Egmore –Central-Fort–Beach/Harbour is fully elevated. Kolkata has an 18.65- km east to west Corridor plan for Kolkata Metro between Das Nagar and Salt Lake, Sector5. Meanwhile, Mr Sreedharan commissioned a new metro traction sub-station that will supply power to the under ground stretch. The sub-station has been completed in the record time of eight months. It will get 66 kv input supply from the Gas Turbine Power station at Indraprastha through 5-km long cables along Ring Road and Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg. The sub-station can be centrally controlled from the Metro Occupational Control Centre at Shastri Park. |
Noida law and order situation grim
Noida, June 28 Equally ironically, the IGP, Meerut Zone, Vipin Sharma, was reportedly instructing the city cops how to tackle crime in the area the same day. In the first incident, Ashok Chadda, a Pepsi dealer was deprived of Rs 4.36 lakh kept in his car from near the DPS crossing. This happened after a Maruti car hit him from the rear, and then blocked his way in the front. When he stopped, three men alighted from that car and walked up to him. Chadda thought they wanted to talk to him about the accident, but one of them proceeded to snatch his car keys to open the central lock and threw chilli powder into
his eyes. The other two, meanwhile, opened the door of his car and took out a bag containing the money, before speeding away. The sensational incident created a traffic jam at the busy crossing for sometime. Later, at about 1.30 p.m., RK Sood of HCL who had drawn Rs.2.76 lakh from ICICI Bank in Sector 18, was deprived of the amount by four criminals on motor bikes who snatched the money while Sood
was walking towards his Zen car. Incidentally, there are two police posts in the area and sector 18 market is equipped with 16 closed circuit cameras installed by Noida authority. Normally, the entire sequence of the incident could have been recorded by the cameras, providing some clue to the criminals’ identity, but they were not working at the time due to a power cut, said Circle Officer
SR Yadav. Noida traders and businessmen have been shocked by such brazen acts of looting in broad daylight, and warned the police that they will be forced to start an agitation if the city’s law and order situation does not improve. Only on June 21, it may be recalled, every police station in Noida was provided with lap top computers and digital cameras,
but it remains to be seen whether they prove useful in tackling crime in
the city. |
