Dhaula Kuan case: Identikit of
3 released
New Delhi, May 12 The police officials claim that the sketches of only three accused have been released as they were close to nabbing the fourth one. “We have taken all angles and descriptions given by the victim into account while preparing the sketches and hope it would help in their arrest,’’ said DCP Southwest district, Dipender Pathak. “About the fourth, we have definite information and he might be in the police net anytime. As per our information, it could be a matter of hours before we get him, that is why we are not releasing his picture,’’ he said. ‘’We are mainly targeting information on the alleged culprits, which could help us nab them. All information and identity of people would be carefully preserved,’’ he said. “I am confident this move would get us some vital information that could lead to the arrest and the prosecution of those involved in the heinous crime on Sunday last,’’ he said. On delays in releasing the sketches, he said it was mainly due to some qualitative inputs received at the last moment because of which changes had to be incorporated before giving it the final ‘go-ahead’. “The victim in her latest version had recommended some additional changes which she thought could bring the picture closer
to reality and be useful in aiding the agencies out to get the criminals,’’ he added. |

Even if you see the total number of suspected cases till yesterday which was 250, 18 were outsiders. All their CSF test results have not come in as yet,’’ Mr Aggarwal added. The total number of suspected cases since May 10 has now mounted to 260 with 91 cases getting discharged from various hospitals till date. MCD Hospital Administration Director, Dr Banvalikar said at the press briefing, ‘’The number of patients currently admitted to Delhi hospitals as of today with suspected meningococcal infection are 152.’’ Suspected cases have not been included in the list. These are all confirmed cases. The fever generally spreads in winter. With the rising temperature, the disease will vanish. Medicines are distributed to
the relatives the patients free of cost as a preventive measure, he claimed. |

Fire officer booked for issuing fake NOC
Faridabad, May 12 The Fire Department here had issued a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to a building in December 2001, which never existed. Though this irregularity had been highlighted way back in 2002 with a formal complaint, the police have registered a case now only against an official of the Fire Department after about three years. The accused official is still to be arrested. The accused, an Assistant Fire Officer in the Fire Department here, had reportedly been eluding the police. He has not faced any action so far due to his reported political links with certain influential persons of the previous state government. As a result, the file pertaining to the case, remained buried for about three years till the new government came in, the sources said. It is alleged that a local leader, based at Ballabhgarh, had played a key role in getting the matter delayed and subdued resulting in no development in the case though it had been around three years old. But the complainant, who had lodged his complaint with an affidavit on March 25 2002, seems to be satisfied with the registration of the case against the accused at last. It is reported that the then Deputy Commissioner and the District Revenue Officer (DRO) had visited the site and found the complaint true as there was no building at the plot to whom the NOC was issued. The complaint had alleged that the accused fire official had provided the NOC to a plot owned by a company in Sector- 31 here, where there was neither any building nor any construction there. And the complainant had demanded a strict action for the fraud committed by the official concerned. The NOC was allegedly issued under the sections 330 and 331 of the Haryana Municipal Act- 1994. Interestingly, the certificate was issued before the date of the application of the applicant, it is claimed. However, it is also reported that no further details of the case were found in the official records. The authorities concerned had submitted its report to the office of the Chief Minister then, but even after the directions of the senior police officials of the state to get the case under sections 420, 467, 468 and 120-B of the IPC , the case was booked after a gap of over an year. However, the case, which has been booked now, contains only sections 420 and 406 of the IPC. No arrest has been made so far. Earlier also, a major case of slackness on the part of the authorities concerned had been highlighted in the Municipal Corporation Faridabad (MCF) here recently when it was found that even after the registration of the FIR against a builder and some of the officials of the MCF in connection with illegal Change Of Land Use (CLU) and the approval of the site plan of residential complex on a plot allegedly encroached upon by the accused, no arrest has been made. The plot belonged to the Haryana Urban Development Authority. The allegations against the builder and the MCF officials had been found true by an enquiry conducted by the Additional Deputy Commissioner in 2003. |

Metro a trend-setter, says Kalam
New Delhi, May 12 In his address to the nation on the Technology Day 2005, the President said the DMRC had given to the nation the potential of executing a fast transportation system using high technology with reliability through a
time bound mission mode operation. He said such efforts, which were also needed in other parts of the country, would prove be the forerunner for many of the country’s rural development missions. Dr Kalam said the DMRC had brought to the country the most advanced rail technologies for the first time, including light weight stainless steel, sleek, modern trains with pneumatic springs, regenerative braking, public information display, wide vestibules and automatic doors. Besides, very advanced signaling and telecommunication system, called Advanced Train Protection (ATP) ensures that no collision takes place between two trains and drivers could not ignore any signal. For its Line no. 2, the DMRC has gone a step further by introducing Automatic Train Operation (ATO). The entire operation thereafter is taken care of by the computers and the train stops at the next station at the precise position automatically. The air-conditioning and ventilation systems of the underground section is also very unique which work automatically and can deal with any situation of fire, either in the tunnel or in the train, safeguarding the lives of the passengers. The most advanced Fare Collection System with Contactless Smart Cards has been introduced which gives on-line information about passengers passing through each station together with collections. |

Film censors urged to observe sanctity of Sikh ethos
New Delhi, May 12 “Of late, the entertainment world has been showing the Sikh characters as clean-shaven or with trimmed beards, performing rituals that are forbidden in the faith and chanting sacred verses incorrectly,’’ Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) chief Paramjit Singh Sarna said. The committee, he added, was writing to Censor Board chief Sharmila Tagore and the Information and Broadcasting Ministry to request them to make sure that the depiction of Sikh characters in films and soaps did not compromise the tenets of the faith. Mr Sarna’s remarks coincided with the controversy racked by ‘’Jo Bole So Nihal’’ that has angered several Sikh groupings which find the film’s title, a sacred slogan, in conflict with its hero’s appearance and actions in the movie. A panel formed by the Akal Takht, the highest Sikh authority, however, has given a clean chit to the Sunny Deol-starrer and instead praised the movie. ‘’It’s not about one movie, but the entertainment world in general, which is projecting Sikhs inappropriately, sometimes to an extent that is quite offensive,’’ Mr Sarna said. In his remarks, Akali Dal (Santokh Singh) president Manjit Singh took exception to some of the leading soap operas that he said awfully disregarded the identity aspect while running the Sikh family dramas on TV. “It’s a strange battle that Sikh thinkers and scholars are faced with. On the one hand, there is a rapid erosion of Sikh identity in Punjab–the heartland of the faith–on the other, it is the entertainment world which is fuelling this identity crisis,’’ Manjit Singh said. |
