INLD to move CEC against DC’s transfer
Hisar, January 22 The INLD leader asserted that Mr Malik was an honest and hard-working officer having a clean image. He said the INLD would lodge its protest before the Central Election Commission (CEC) against the decision to shift the Deputy Commissioner. Levelling serious allegations against the Election Commission, Mr Panwar maintained that the Election Commission consultant, Mr K.J.Rao, was pro-Congress and was working in favour of the party. The INLD leader pointed out that some officials of the Election Commission had held a meeting with the district officials and representatives of various political parties. He said after the meeting, Mr Rao held some discussions with a Congress leader in solitude. Mr Panwar maintained that it was after this meeting that he sent a report about the Deputy Commissioner to the Election Commission. |
Ban pre-poll surveys, says Ajay Chautala
Naggal (Ambala), January 22 “In any case, time and again pre-poll surveys have been proved wrong. The pre-poll political analyses based on the surveys are incorrect,” he said. Mr Ajay Chautala queried that how could a pre-poll survey, carried out on the basis of opinions of a few people, be correct for a seat which had more than one lakh voters. “Voters should be allowed to make their own judgement and they should not be influenced by such surveys,” he said. He added that the INLD would again get absolute majority in Haryana. To a query, Mr Chautala said Mr Om Prakash Chautala had always contested elections from two seats. “The main issue in this election is the rise in the prices of basic commodities. The Congress does not have any issues,” he said. While speaking at the public meeting, Mr Ajay Chautala appealed to the electorate to cast their votes in favour of MLA and INLD candidate Jasbir
Mallour. Mr Ajay Chautala said Mr Om Prakash Chautala had strived to fulfil the vision of Chaudhary Devi Lal. “Mr Jasbir Mallour has worked hard for the people of Naggal and there has been development all over the area,” he said. He said when the INLD government had come to power, the law and order situation was bad, government coffers were empty and cases had been slapped against the youth during the prohibition period. “Despite the adverse circumstances, we have succeeded in bringing about prosperity in the state. Today, Haryana is a leading state of the country due to our
hardwork,” he said. Mr Ajay Chautala said that plans like the Dadupur-Nalwi canal, Yamuna Nagar thermal power project and an express highway for Rs 2,000 crore were implemented by the INLD government. “Through the Sarkar Apke Dwar programme, we have reached out to the people,” he said. He said the Congress had misled the people during the recent Lok Sabha elections. “The Congress is yet to fulfil its promises. Congress President Sonia Gandhi had undertaken a roadshow and she had said that the Congress was with the poor. But it does not seem to be so,” he said. |

Post-poll pact unlikely: Sushma
Baas (Hisar), January 22 She asserted that the people of the state were fed up with the Chautala regime and wanted to get rid of it at any cost. “However, I caution you not to vote for the Congress because if you do so, you will regret your decision later,” she said, adding that the BJP could be a good alternative. The BJP leader held the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre responsible for rising prices and listed the achievements of the Vajpayee government. She urged the people to vote for Mr Ram Kumar Gautam, BJP candidate from the Narnaund constituency. Striking an emotional chord, she said, “Being a daughter of Haryana, I am your sister. You can fulfil all your responsibilities towards me if you vote for BJP candidates in the elections to the state Assembly.” Talking to The Tribune, Ms Swaraj said the BJP had decided to contest the poll on its own as its earlier coalition partner, the INLD, had failed to live up to the people’s expectations. On being questioned on the probability of a post-poll pact, she said it was unlikely. “We will prefer to sit in the opposition rather than forging an alliance,” she asserted. She maintained that corrupt practices and loot of the Chautala government, rising prices and completion of the SYL canal would be the main issues in Haryana. Replying to a question, Ms Swaraj observed that the people of Bihar wanted to oust the Laloo Prasad Yadav regime and the BJP would get a clear mandate in Jharkhand. She said she would campaign in Haryana for 10 days. Asked about the revolt in local units of the BJP, she remarked that the situation in the BJP was much better than the situation in other parties. A humorous situation was created when Mr Nar Singh Selwal, who had joined the BJP after a stint in the BSP, referred to Ms Swaraj as “behan (sister) Mayawati” instead of “behan Sushma”. At this, Ms Swaraj quipped, “Behan badal gayee, bhai (The sister has changed, brother)”. As a mark of respect to Devi Lal, Mr Gautam urged youths standing on the pedestal of a bust of the late leader to get down. Those standing at a distance from the stage were not able to get a glimpse of Ms Swaraj. At this, one of the youths remarked, “Yo te dikhti ae konya (she is not visible)”. Quipped another, “Dikhegi kyunkar, paanch foot ki saari sai (how can you see her, she just five feet tall)”. |
BJP not for post-poll alliance: ID Swami
Ambala, January 22 Mr Swami said the BJP had always respected people’s sentiments. “People were against the Congress so we had entered into an alliance so that we could keep the Congress away. Now, we have decided to go alone into political fray as it is the wish of the workers and people,” he said. He stated that in yesterday’s scenario, the BJP is the best alternative for the electorate. “The voters have seen good governance during the NDA government, which has several achievements to its credit. Now, the people of Haryana are looking towards the BJP for providing good governance,” he said. Mr Swami said the BJP manifesto had been termed the “Sankalp Patra” since the party is determined to fulfil all its promises. “We are confident that we will get majority in Haryana. I must stress that there is no Congress wave in Haryana. “The six-month rule of the Congress-led UPA government has exposed the Congress. The UPA government will not last long since the Left parties are always at loggerheads,” he said. Mr Swami said the BJP MLAs of Haryana had taken the right step by quitting the SYL issue. “Also, the release of the Godhra report at this juncture seems to be politically motivated. The report is not the final report and investigations are still on,” he stated. |

Hoardings removed on
EC’s directions
Panchkula, January 22 It is learnt that one of the candidates had complained to the Election Commission regarding the misuse of signboards, and the huge hoardings of MC, put up in the township. He complained that these hoardings were also violating the Model Code of Conduct, as sloganeering in favour of the INLD was printed on these boards. The complaint was referred to Deputy Commissioner and Chief Electoral Officer, Ms Neelam P Kasni, who asked the Returning Officer, Mr Verender Dahiya, to take the necessary action. The latter called a meeting of the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) officials, and asked them to remove all these boards and hoardings. Three teams of the engineering wing of the HUDA were set up under an Executive Engineer for the removal of these signboards and hoardings. A JCB machine and a crane were also used to remove these boards from various parts of the township. Over 300 boards and hoardings were removed and the operation lasted till evening. Only some boards, where lights had been installed, were not removed. On December 7 last year, HUDA had launched an operation to remove these boards from the township. However, as the HUDA staff was busy removing the hoardings, including signboards of police posts/ police stations and traffic sign boards, which had advertisement strips running on one side, the police took offence to the HUDA drive, and took away the truck in which these display boards had been kept after removal. HUDA officials had said that hoardings or display boards cannot be put up without their permission. They said that HUDA was incurring losses to the tune of Rs 30 lakh because of these illegal hoardings, as no one was willing to take the contract for installing hoardings on bus queue shelters and near public toilets because of illegal hoardings. |

Laxmikant Chawla flays Chautala govt
Ambala, January 22 “Mr Chautala has only forwarded the interest of his family while the state faced several problems,” she said. She said besides the INLD, the Congress too has let down the people. “The voters are facing heavy financial burden due to rise in prices of essential commodities under the Congress-led UPA government. Goods like sugar and LPG are becoming expensive and the people are unable to bear this burden,” she said. Ms Laxmikant Chawla said women are feeling unsafe and wrong cases are being filed. “If we do not want Haryana to become a second Bihar, then we must ensure that the Congress does not come to power,” she said. She stated that the Ambala Cantt MLA, Mr Anil Vij, has always supported the Chautala government and Mr Vij will have to face the consequences in this election. Ms Chawla said that despite countless people being affected by floods in Ambala Cantt, the local MLA did not even seek compensation from the Chautala government. |
