Dowry victim alleges bid to murder

The division number 7 police yesterday registered a case under Sections 498-A, 406, 354, 323, 307, 511, 148 and 149 of the IPC on the statement of Ms Gurpreet Kaur, a resident of Kishore Nagar mohalla on Tajpur Road, against of her husband, Vijay Kumar, father-in-law, Surjit Kumar, and other members her in-laws family Harbhajan Ram, Toshi and Paramjit, residents of Shahpur village falling under the jurisdiction of Phillaur police station in Jallandhar district.

Wheat worth Rs 2 lakh destroyed
Mandi Ahmedgarh, April 12
Wheat worth lakhs of rupees was gutted in fire in Chapaar village here today. A labourer set the straw ablaze and the fire spread to nearby fields of six farmers. The ripe crop in 65 bighas and straw in 100 bighas of land was reduced to ashes within minutes. The labourer was working in the fields of Mr Manjit Singh.

3.59 lakh MT of wheat arrives in mandis
Ludhiana, April 12
Mr Anurag Verma, Deputy Commissioner, today visited various purchase centres in the district to check wheat procurement by various government agencies. Mr Verma claimed that the farmers were satisfied with procurement operations.

Free IT training course from April 21
Ludhiana, April 12
To impart practical training to students studying courses in the Information Technology, the Punjab Institute of Management and Technology (PIMT), Mandi Gobindgarh, will conduct a week-long summer project development programme on its campus from April 21. No fee will be charged.

Riat XI and Unity Club registered victories in their respective matches in the 11th Veera Devi Memorial Cricket Tournament being organised by the FTI Club here at the Bhambian Kalan ground. Riat XI scored one-wicket win over Star Cricket Club while Unity Club defeated Friends Club by 25 runs to advance into the next round.
