PATIALA
MEDICAL CAMP: The State Bank of India, Model Town branch, organised a free diabetes detection camp at Garg Mission Hospital here on Monday. Dr Naresh Garg examined154 persons out of which 96 were found to be diabetic and 52 cases were of hypertension and heart problems. Free medicines were also distributed among patients.

ANNUAL MEET: The Patiala Social Welfare Association organised annual meeting at the Red Cross Bhavan here on Monday. The function was presided over by the president of the association, Mr Vijay Kumar Goyal. Mr Goyal read the annual report of the association and highlighted the achievements made by the society. He further said that there was a need to spread awareness about traffic rules and regulations among the people.

APPOINTED: Dr Vinay Goyal has been appointed as president of the local Chapter of Punjabi Dental Society, USA. He has been also invited to attend IInd quarterly meeting and seminar of the society. He will be presenting his paper on management of post-operative complications in oral surgery. The seminar will be held on June 13.

APPEAL: A number of students have appealed to Punjabi University to change the date of B.Sc (medical) examination which is scheduled to be held on April 17 as CBSE-PMT paper is also being held on same date. Students say that they have to leave either B.Sc or PMT paper and in both cases there will be loss of one academic year.

AMBALA
MEETING: A meeting of Ambala Cantonment unit of the Haryana Vikas Party was held under the presidentship of Mr Janak Singh Rana. The campaign programme was discussed at the meeting. A 15-member campaign committee has been formed. The members of the committee include Mr Arvind Sharma, Mr Santosh Kumar, Mr Jaspal Singh, Mr Laxman Nainiwal, Mr Nanak Chand and Mr Harish Nagar.

TOPPER HONOURED: Ms Geeta Leekha was bestowed with gold medal and a roll of honour by the DAV College Managing Committee at Delhi for achieving first position in MA-I (English) in Kurukshetra University . The Principal of the college, Dr K.L. Gomber said it had been a tradition of the management committee to honour the university toppers.
