Riat XI, Unity Club register win

Ludhiana, April 12
Riat XI and Unity Club registered victories in their respective matches in the 11th Veera Devi Memorial Cricket Tournament being organised by the FTI Club here at the Bhambian Kalan ground. Riat XI scored one-wicket win over Star Cricket Club while Unity Club defeated Friends Club by 25 runs to advance into the next round.

In the first match, Star Cricket Club, batting first made 120 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the quota of 20 overs. Riat XI achieved the target in the last over of the match after losing nine wickets. Kuldeep Singh of Riat XI played a stellar role in his side’s victory capturing four wickets and then chipping in with 25 runs. He was named the player of the match.

Brief scores: Star Cricket Club — 120 for 8 (Neeraj 25, Billu 29, Happy 14, Mannu 14; Kuldeep 4 for 14, Devinder Riat 1 for 22 and Ajay 1 for 25)

Riat XI — 123 for 9 (Lucky Sodhi 36, Sunil 21, Kuldeep Singh 25, Jolly 18; Neeraj 3 for 12 and Goldy 3 for 25)

In the second match, Unity Club set a target of 147 runs for a win for the Friends Club. However, Friends Club’s innings folded at 122 runs with five balls to spare. Kamal of Unity Club (25 runs and 2 for 21) was declared the man of the match.

Ludhiana-Amritsar cricket tie today

Ludhiana, April 12
Gagandeep Dhand, a student of the local GRD Academy has been named Captain of the Ludhiana (u-15) team for the Punjab State Inter-District Cricket Tournament (Sushil Bali Trophy) being organised by the Ludhiana District Cricket Association (LDCA) under the aegis of the Punjab Cricket Association. Ludhiana, in their inaugural match will take on Amritsar here at the Satish Chander Dhavan Government College ground tomorrow.

According to Mr Vinod Chitkara, honorary general secretary, LDCA, the following boys have been asked to report at the venue on Tuesday at 6.30 am. From these lads the final eleven will be picked up for the match against Amritsar. Sushil Sharma and Basant Vaid, both from Hoshiarpur, have been deputed by the PCA as umpires.

The Ludhiana team comprises of Gagandeep Dhand, Sushyant kohli, Arjun Puri, Sahil Arora, Vishwajeet, Varun, Geetansh, Deepak Bansal, Sanchit Gosain, Tarsem, Vipin Arora, Ravi Muchhal, Ankush Taneja, Amrinder Brar, Atul Kohli, Vaneet Sehgal, Jashanpreet Singh Sidhu, Prince, Dilpreet Singh, Lalit Malhotra, Salil Verma and Shivam Passi.
