Chandigarh, January 27
Dr Sarala Gopalan, Head of the Department of Gynaecology, has denied that there was any incident of female infanticide before January 17, 2004.

Dr Gopalan said: "Such an incident never happened before in the labour room." It was published on January 19 quoting informed sources that such an incident had occurred in 2000 but the police did not register any case in this regard.

CBA to host badminton meet

Chandigarh, January 27
The Chandigarh Badminton Association (CBA) has been allotted the National Mini and Sub-junior Badminton meet for 2004-2005. According to Mr TPS Puri, Secretary of the association, earlier the UT had hosted the Junior National Badminton meet in 2000. Mr Puri, who attended the annual general meeting of the Badminton Association of India (BAI) during the Senior National Badminton meet concluded at Hyderabad last week, said the BAI had also decided to provide the CBA with three Hova courts on subsidised rates. This would help the local players have access to the latest facilities on regular basis. At present players practice on wooden courts while during national meets they had to play on Hova courts.

PU campus win

The Panjab University campus, Chandigarh, bagged the PU Inter College Shooting Championship for the session. SGGS College, Sector 26, Chandigarh, was runners-up, while GGD SD College, Sector 32 clinched the third place.

In the Air Rifle shooting, Sarbjit Singh Randhawa of PU campus bagged the individual all round best, while in Air Pistol shooting Akhil Pahuja of PU campus won the all round individual best in the Air Pistol event.

Meanwhile, in the PU Inter College Zonal Handball meet held at PU campus grounds, DAV College, Chandigarh, got the better of Arya College, Ludhiana, 22-0.

Nitin is champ

Nitin was declared the champion in the Chandigarh Prize Money Chess Championship-2004, concluded at Jawahar Navodya Vidyalaya, Sector 25. He was closely followed by Abhinandan Vohra and Vipnesh Bhardwaj with five points each who were placed at second and third place, respectively. Principal CM Sharma and Mr AP Saksena, president, Chandigarh Chess Association, gave away the prizes.
