Special security for Republic Day function
Mohali, January 25
Special security arrangements have been made by the police in wake of the Burail Jail break for the Republic Day celebrations in the township tomorrow.
According to the DSP, Mr Harpreet Singh, additional deployment of forces and another SHO at the venue has been done to ensure that the function passes of peacefully.

Final touches are being given to a tableaux of the Department of Information, Science and Technology, Chandigarh Administration, on the eve of the Republic Day parade, at Government College of Art, Sector 10, Chandigarh, on Sunday.

Security arrangements for R-Day function
Panchkula, January 25
In view of the Republic Day celebrations in the Sector 5 Dasehra Ground here tomorrow, the police has made the elaborate security arrangements.
According to a press note, special checking of vehicles is being done to avoid any untoward incident. Besides this, watch is being kept on the movement of suspicious elements at public places, including the raiway station and the bus stand.
Curbs on traffic today
Chandigarh, January 25
There will be restrictions and diversions on the movement of traffic on certain roads in the city on Republic Day.
The stretch of the road from the traffic light points on the dividing of Sectors 16 and 17 to the small rotary on the road between the Inter-State-Bus Terminus and Sector 22 via the Cricket Stadium roundabout (Sectors 16, 17, 22 and 23) will remain close from 7 am onwards on January 26 till the parade at the Parade Ground is over.
Students celebrate spirit of freedom
Chandigarh, January 25
It was an unusually vibrant and well-rehearsed show. About 300 students from various schools of the city were at their talented best this evening at a function organised by the Chandigarh Administration at Tagore Theatre, which featured special events prepared to justify revelry associated with the Republic Day.

Rain may not play spoilsport on R-Day
Chandigarh, January 25
There is a reason to cheer for the participants and organisers of the Republic Day functions in the city. Meteorological officials are hopeful that it would not rain tomorrow, at least during the morning hours when the Republic Day functions are scheduled to be held. Fog or mist in early morning hours could reduce the visibility.
Ganeshi Lal to launch BJP campaign

With a view to mobilising party workers for the coming Lok Sabha and Haryana Assembly elections, the state BJP president, Mr Ganeshi Lal, will kick off the party’s campaign under the Atal Sandesh Yatra at Surajpur on Janauary 28.
MC to consider redrafted proposal about ward panels
Chandigarh, January 25
The local municipal corporation will consider the redrafted proposal of bylaws regarding the constitution of ward committees in the city. The original draft, cleared in December 2002, was sought to be amended by certain councillors. The forthcoming meeting of the corporation is scheduled for
January 27.
General Mehta visits rehabilitation centre
Chandigarh, January 25
The General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, Lieut-Gen S.S. Mehta, today paid a farewell visit to the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre, Mohali. General Mehta, who hangs up his uniform on superannuation this month, interacted with inmates individually and enquired about their welfare and rehabilitation.
There are presently 28 inmates at the centre. General Mehta also gave them presents. He also announced that physiotherapy equipment worth Rs 3 lakh, for which a demand was projected, would be provided to the centre.

BIS conducts raids
on two companies
Chandigarh, January 25
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has initiated action against two companies, Jyoti Chemicals and Allied Industries, Chandigarh, and Nehra Pipe Industries, Panipat, for the misuse of ISI mark. These companies were found violating the provisions of the BIS Act, 1986, by illegally manufacturing products under different trade marks and wrongfully using the ISI mark without any licence.
